Top 5 All Time TV Westerns/In Order

1 - Deadwood
2 - Godless
3 - WestWorld
4 -
5 -

I don't usually care much for Westerns, so this pretty much completes my list.

I'll list these based on how much I've enjoyed them but I don't see how any Westerns fan can put anything ahead of Gunsmoke. The longest series ever and in almost 800 episodes, the writing and acting were absolutely flawless. Not one single dud episode for 20 years and to be quite honest, the final season was the best, in my opinion.

Gunsmoke is in a class of its own.

1.) Gunsmoke
2.) Alias Smith and Jones - man, the writing on this series was unbelievable. You had to really stay with it or you'd get lost. Man, do I wish there had been more season!
3.) Maverick
4.) The Virginian (and the final season called The Men of Shiloh)
5.) Kung Fu - same thing, would give anything for another season or two.

I also love Cheyenne, Wagon Train, Wild Wild West, Big Valley so many other series. And as for Bonanza, as much as I loved it, there were so many oddities and so many silly episodes where they tried to be humorous and failed miserably.
Would probably be my list too, as far as classic westerns. I'd add Grizzly Adams as an honorable mention

For "newer" westerns, I like both Deadwood and Hell On Wheels.

And of course, Lonesome Dove is always my favorite, but technically it's a mini-series,

If we were including Lonesome Dove, it would be my second-favorite all-time. Time to watch it again!

Have you seen all the LD iterations put to screen? Street's of Laredo (your boy Jimmy Garner plays Call), Dead Man's Walk and Commanche Moon?

All very good. And well cast.

100% agree.

On every subsequent movie I expected disappointment; a big drop-off but it never came. Incredible writing, and like you said, casting.

Top notch all the way and really need to get them all watched again!

I found them all on YouTube. Will likely start shortly.

All of the books are very good as well.

Also, Streets Of Laredo gets bonus points for having George Carlin.

I usually read books before I see the videos.

That was the case here. For some dumb reason I didn't watch Lonesome Dove first time out.

Lonesome Dove is one of the only movies or mini-series I've ever seen that rivals or maybe even exceeds the book.

Started it last night on YouTube.

Video quality isn't the greatest, doubt it was HD at all.

And then on my x large unit it gets worse.

But still a great watch. Duvall is great.

Duvall is (and I usually cringe at this word but not for him and a handful of others) brilliant!

He was also great in Open Range and in one most never even heard of: Broken Trail, which I think I might have liked almost as much as Open Range.

Love Open Range. Realistic shootout. Will keep eyes open for Broken Trail. Looked it up. Greta Scacchi....!!!
