“I can see why he had the kind of success he had at Auburn and Carolina,” Belichick said. “Talking to people who were with him there, the things they said about him at Auburn and at Carolina from a decade ago or 2-3 years ago or even last year, it’s all the same, and it showed up here: He’s an extremely hard worker. Nobody works harder than Cam does. He’s here early, he stays late and he works very hard. Some players like to work on things they’re good at, like if you’re strong on the bench press you just throw more weight on the bench. But Cam works on things he’s not at good at and tries to improve on a daily basis and that’s something I really respect about him. That’s not easy for players or really any of us to do. We’ll get something we’re not really good at or it’s not our strength and you spend extra time on it, when our natural tendency is to do things we’re good at. So he works extremely hard in all areas.”

Working hard is great but Stidham will be the man Week 1.

I think the AFC East and Pat fans should really get their heads around this, Cam is going to start and will end up being an MVP QB if he stays healthy because of BB

Are the Pats running the Wildcat all year? No way Cam is going to the win the MVP unless his pass to rush ratio is like 1/4.

I've always thought of Cam as a very dedicated and focused player.

He's just, uh, flamboyant. Yeah, that's a safe word, I think. While clearly also fabulous.

Reading this, I'm reminded of another QB. They all said he wasn't good enough, but nobody worked harder, no one was more committed, and no one more dedicated to improvement than he was.

And that QB, who everyone said was destined to fail, grew up to be...

... Tim Tebow.

During the early months after Tom Brady left New England for Tampa Bay, many team reporters and eager fans had penciled in Stidham as the team’s plan at quarterback moving forward. While this could’ve been the case at the time, the Patriots made headlines by officially announcing their signing of Newton on July 8th. This, of course, signaled that a quarterback competition would take place throughout training camp. The signing raised questions as to why the team had waited until the middle of summer to sign Newton when his former team, the Carolina Panthers, had released the former MVP on March 24th. This debate has been ongoing throughout camp and last Friday’s edition of the “Felger & Mazz” radio program provided clarity.

The widely popular Boston sports radio show’s executive producer, James Stewart (Twitter: IAmJamesStewart) revealed text messages he had received from a reliable insider Patriots source. Stewart began by reading from his phone, “From somebody I trust, ‘#4 lost the job.” The show’s host, Michael Felger, followed up by asking Stewart if Stidham’s trip to Texas earlier this summer had anything to do with losing the starting job, “100 percent, Stidham leaving for Texas to go to a wedding and not completing their [Patriots] offseason program was a factor in Cam Newton being here.”

Stewart then offered up another text message, “My phone has just said, “Stidham will be taken seriously in the quarterback room when he stops acting like a fan and acts more like an offensive leader.” Later in the segment, Stewart confirmed that Stidham has been “terrified” of New England’s defense in practice, a statement that may help explain Stidham’s poor camp.

Agreed.

I was thinking the same, but Belichick never said that much about Tebow. He was very tight lipped.

He seems really high on Newton, however.

Belichick is always playing these chess games five moves ahead of everyone else. This love for Cam now is probably calculated build-up for a big trade - so he can hook a gullible GM into taking his over-performing trash in exchange for quality new pieces he can mold into another dynasty.

cams gonna be an MVP candidate this year. why? not because i think cams awesome. people know my thoughts on him.

hes now the starter

and hes going to be 32 looking for a new deal.

pats go 11-5

newton is in MVP talks

100 mil in cap space next year, most in the league by miles.

cams only a seat warmer, unless he does something freakishly outstanding. interesting info is stidham LOST the job, becasue he went to a wedding in TX and blew off practive. the coaches say he "is a fan not a leader" right now.

they called cam newton the next day, and here we are.
