If the call has that many people, it’s already probably a waste of time. My boss refuses to be in any meeting where less than half the attendees don’t present or ask questions. His reasoning is that those who aren’t necessary rarely add anything to discussion, and that “informational” presence can better be gained through distribution of summary / meeting minutes. Meanwhile, of course, he has me accompany him to board meetings “just in case” he gets asked a difficult question he can’t answer quickly.
Because you gotta know your audience. Sometimes you're dealing with retards and they don't even know why they are asking a question, other than to be heard. Sometimes i'm in those huge meetings and some dipshit is like, "durrr... so how do you send an email? Is it just the one button or is there a shortcut?" And I'm like, "Bitch. We know you're on the call. Everyone can see you. Shut up and let us leave early!" Just like one of those kids in school that reminds the teacher that they didn't give us weekend homework.
My old boss was the same... Unless you made it, work on it or own it, you don't need to be in the meeting. The problem we have is that everyone wants face time with the big boss. They want to be like, "Oh, yeah- I was in a meeting with Exec VP and he told me..." Lyin' bech. He told the room to take a break. Now GTFO. I had one group tell me they needed 7 people invited to this meeting with the CFO.
