If he did mean they shouldn't be in the US even if the vehicle wasn't over loaded doesn't mean it's a racist statement, it means they were in the US illegally period.

I find The Who cares to be insensitive. I find calling them "just" something is denigrating and insensitive. But calling them "illegal Mexicans" is a true statement.

how is that racist? He didn't add any negative adjectives. Had he left of "illegal" then it would be extremely racist. As is he is showing poor taste against a specific subset of a race.

Because he believes their lives are forfeit because they are not Americans.

Loss of life is loss ofmlife, whether they are here illegally or not. On too of it, his comments were made well before we knew the status of those killed. Sterotyping and making assumptions that "oh 27 Mexicans in a single vehicle, bet they are here illegal" is racial stereotyping and racist.

I don’t know. If we are going to dissect it the “just” illegal Mexicans is more than denigrating and insensitive. If someone wants to see that as racist I could understand that much.

Nothing else I saw here rose to that level though.

I'm not going to split hairs to determine intent, but it would be like me saying I hate just white trash. Not racist. I hate the trashiest of white people. TO be fair, I hate illegal Mexicans too. Illegal anyones. Lawbreakers suck.
