March Madnes 2021 NCAA Tournament

Can we talk about how fucking stupid it is that the Michigan UCLA game is on at 10 fucking PM on Tuesday and the USC Gonzaga game is on at 7:50? WTF? Two west coast teams get the earlier matchup, how...why? With two games on, why the fuck is one at 10pm anyway? Fucking hell man. I guess I'll wake up in the morning and find out what happened...

Ha I said the same thing last night.

I also have no idea why they are starting them so late. If the first game MUST start at 6:15 pm to maximize viewers, play them in separate arenas so that the late game can start 2 hours later rather than 2 hours a 45 minutes(potentially longer).

And yeah, putting the two west coast teams first was hilarious. Especially since thats the more must see game imo. They might be considering the 1st game the more primetime game though since the second game is a 10 pm tip for the east coast.

It's a shame you don't like basketball. Howard has accomplished more in this one basketball season than Harbaugh has in his first 6 season in football.

Yea it’s dumb scheduling. If they thought first game was more primetime I don’t know why they would put Oregon State and Houston 1st tonight.

I know Michigan and Ucla are big time programs but I am stunned the Zags and USC is the first game.

Then again that might be more of primetime for most people anyways.

But I figured they would put the more intriguing game 2nd and both those teams are west coasters. Where as Michigan is not.

More intriguing game gets the 7 PM slot.

Most college basketball fans are east coast/central, and have to nod off by 10 PM.

As a total netural I have more interest in the Zags game. UCLA is UCLA but still an 11 seed.

That is a good point. I don't know the reason for that.

But why make them so late to begin with? Start the first game at 3...4...5...6. A 6pm start ends around 8. Start the second game at 8:30.

Because there's no precedence for this sort of thing. Usually these games would be played on the weekened and so they'd slot them earlier.

Because they're moved to weekdays, they wanted to put them so people could work and still watch the games.

It sucks too, my job is difficult, try and get my work done by the game. We'll see.

It's an interesting trick trying to schedule weekday games to get the most viewership. If you start a game at 6pm EST, you lose the West because by the time folks get home from work, that game is over.

But, if you start it too late, then you end up losing much of the East because they have to go to work the next day, so they aren't likely to want to stay up.

It does seem odd that the game with 2 West coast teams is the earlier game though.

Doesn't everyone normally watch the earlier games in the tournament, that happen right in the middle of the day, at work?

I think people have a better chance at watching games at work, or planning to take some time off work to watch, than people on the east coast staying up until Midnight.

Those are for the hardcore fans and gamblers.

Yes, if they put the games at 1 and 4 we'd find a way to watch it, but the later rounds, they try and draw more casual viewers.

Plus... some people actually have work to do when they are at work, lol.

I guess. But out east here, most of our sports bars aren't allowed to operate past 10 or 12 because of Covid restrictions. So you're talking about cutting that business/viewership right there. And given it's a work day, most people aren't going to stay up until 12:30am to finish the game, especially lacking connection to it.

Howard also walked into a great situation

Agreed, but 4 of his 6 best players were brought in after he got there with Wagner, Dickinson, Brown and Smith. And Brooks was a seldomly used role player. Nobody thought this roster was going to win the B1G regular season or make the E8. He's done a great job.

Phil Marteli as an assistant coach was a home run hire
