I’m thinking an electronic strike zone will come with the new CBA, but I say within 10 years, there will be no human umpires, or at least not what we think of today. Can’t happen soon enough. MLB umpires are proof unions are overrated

My personal preference would be to keep umps and remove the transposed strike zone box over the plate on telecasts. I appreciate human error much more than robotic error. I appreciate human employment much more than robotic employment.

I prefer removing human error all together. I love human employment, but I don’t like downright incompetence

Maybe get rid of the union so the CB Bucknors, Angel Hernandezs, Joe Wests and Sam Holbrooks of the world can be shitcanned

How can a computer correct the absolute bullshit fucked up call last night? Clearly, the Phillies are little bitches. but fuck that.

Of course we all would like zero error; but that's not reality. If we have robots calling balls and strikes there's still going to be error.

I'm with you on the dislike of unions protecting incompetent workers.

LOL @Illustrious Potentate making a damn umpire thread after I'm about ready to throw a damn lamp at the TV still pissed from last night.

I’m a gambler. I don’t like losing because of umpires or refs

Gotta have some censors or something, that’s for the eggheads to figure out. I’ve cooled down about that. I thought safe watching live and we all know replay is just a waste of time. Sam Holbrook can still die in a fire though

Still gonna happen; you just won't have a named human to blame for it.

...Could be a random bug on a sensor or a perfectly-timed flash of light from someone's camera that causes a faulty call or a straight hardware failure or software bug or faulty calibration or ... an infinite number of variables...

...Can't wait for the first fastball that hits the zone dead center and the computer calls it a ball... ...Then we have a 90 minute game delay while facility administrators troubleshoot it...

this makes me laugh

Difference is the technology would improve over time. Humans are gonna be retarded until the end of time

You’re a gambler....you assume the risk of human refs/umps when you play.

When there are robots you will assume the risk of errors in programming (by humans) when you gamble too.

Humans nerds tend to program better than regular humans can react live. You can’t rely on replay, that game in Oakland a few years ago when an A’s player hit a game winning homer, but was called a double and the call stood on replay, it cost me a parlay that would have paid 4 figures

You’re right. I just tend to agree with @RP-29. I’ve always embraced the human element of the game. I also don’t gamble on the games, so I get that.

I’m sure it’s seen as me being easy to feel this way since my team benefited last night....but I will say the same when a similar call costs them a game.

I’ll just say it with a bit more attitude to my tone.

Im fine with umps. But there needs to be accountability. And for those in the replay booth too. I'm not saying they have to be fired after a wrong call, but they can't just consistently fuck up and have no repercussions. How the fuck did Laz Diaz end up behind the plate in the world series last year? He has to be porking Mandred's mother.

And then you have the West, Bucknor, Hernandez, and Holbrooks of the world that should be let go after decades of incompetency. There are hundreds of umps that spend years in the minor league system and never get the call up because its insanely hard to crack the ranks of mlb umpiring. Because fuck ups like these guys are essentially given a lifetime contract to do whatever the fuck they want.

I’m 100% with you on this. The umpire union has to be the strongest in the world

It’s than just my team. After sleeping on it, I can’t really fault the umpire and replay has been ineffective since it first started. There’s been a lot of big moments where human error effected the World Series. The safe call in the KC-St Louis WS, that Rockies player never touched home against the Padres, that fan assisted home run for Derek Jeter, etc
