I know they were all the same, but one is better than the others.

1959 Rio Bravo
1966 Eldorado
1970 Rio Lobo

They’re all the same. John Wayne was the most ridiculously overrated “actor” of all time.

excuse me what GIF

When I was a kid, pre-cable, we would watch a lot of John Wayne. He was one of my Dad's favorites.

I had Allegheny Uprising (a very young John Wayne and co-star Claire Trevor) memorized. Dad would get so mad as I would speak the lines before they were spoken on screen.

But of them all, my favorite was The Horse Soldiers.

The one with Robert Mitchum.

I had The Western Channel for years and love westerns and there's not many I haven't seen but John Wayne movies aren't even anywhere close to my favorites.

Rio Bravo & El Dorado are the same movie. Rio Bravo is better. I do like Rio Lobo but Rio Bravo is the best of the three.

This.

There are a million great westerns out there. The Eastwood trilogy. Lonesome Dove. Like a half dozen Costner movies and a Wyatt Earp that was just perfect. My personal favorite is Silverado which is technically a Costner movie but he's only a supporting piece in an ensemble cast and that one is just a joy to watch.

What does Wayne have? A lot of volume but if you are going for standouts it's The Cowboys and True Grit. One is honestly forgotten and the other is remembered because the remake was so much better than the original.

The dude deserves credit for being an icon in his genera but history will remember Eastwood, McQueen, and Costner ahead of Wayne.

Watched a lot of John Wayne movies with my folks when I was a kid, but it has been probably 30 years since I've seen one. I will agree with @Cowboyinexile 's comment especially in that the remake of True Grit was outstanding and better than what I remember of the original. Could be because Jeff Bridges is the best actor of his generation, could be better film technology :noidea:

Marion Morrison was the Mark Sinclair of his generation.

McQueen and Costner... lolzzz
