Coaching Carousel

This job isn't as desirable with NCAA sanctions looming. I'm hearing Tommy Loyd from Gonzaga is their #1 choice and he has zero HC experience.
oh, i stopped following this case years ago

i figured Arizona finally fired him due to a combination of the FBI embarrassment + a decline in performance

Stoudamire has had zero top 100 teams @ Pacific. His best team has finished around #115. He would be a pretty mediocre hire for Arizona.

Whoever it is will likely be a placeholder hire until the sanctions are wrapping up.

Sweaty Sean and Archie both fired in the same season.

Here's their wives....not bad.

My guys hired the Abilene Christian coach Joe Golding. We'll see how this works out.

Big loss for us as well.

good hire by Cincy + great move by Wes.

If Wes can get Cincy going, then it's practically guaranteed that UNC will hire him in 4-5 years.
Cincy just fell completely off the map like Memphis.

They were ridiculously consistent with Huggins. Cronin did a good job keeping them afloat. But I think being in the AAC is probably hurting them. Especially now that Uconn is gone.

Which conference would be a better fit for them? Should they follow UCONN to the Big East and play an independent schedule in football?

If not for COVID, this year would have been the first season they missed the NCAAT since 2010. They haven't really fallen off the map from a results perspective. They were probably headed in the wrong direction with Brannen, but the sample size on that wasn't large. From an exposure perspective, that is the price you pay once you go from the Big East to the AAC.

Huggins' time at Cincy always cracks me up. Cincy isn't exactly an academic powerhouse, and they still fired Huggins over his academic woes. I once read an article about Huggins' time at Cincinnati. "It wasn't the fact that only a few of his players graduate, it was the fact that NONE of his players graduate."

Their football program is too good to play an independent schedule. Their basketball programs best fit is the Big East, but it's not viable given their football program. I'm guessing they are hoping to land in the Big 12 or ACC, if ND were to join and the conference needed a 16th school.

They haven't fallen off the map, but they weren't what they were with Huggins. I do think the AAC has hurt them. That league doesn't have a good perception, and I think it's deserved. Once Louisville left and now subsequently Uconn, there is little to hang on in that conference. I just don't think the conference can get all the traditional programs rolling at the same time(Cincy, Houston, Memphis, Temple, Wichita State).

unlike UConn, Cincy football is pretty stable. I doubt that Cincy is going to go anything that would significantly harm their football program. Cincy is probably stuck in the AAC.

Huggins has been gone for sixteen years. He's a total nonfactor as it relates to current-day Cincy basketball.

I know he's a non factor. I was just saying they haven't been at the level they were when we was there. It felt like they were a top 10/15 team on an annual basis. I don't think being in the AAC is really doing them any favors either.

This has been in the works for a while. Huge get based off what what Haynes has been known for at Maryland and the type of roster Shaka has been building.

Assuming he pulls out of the draf. Morsell from Maryland while most likely be joining as a transfer.

Interestingly enough, the American has done pretty well.

They have a national title, and now a Final 4 appearance by another team.

But the perception of the conference is uninspiring. Rag-tag group of good to middlin athletic programs with little connection to each other.

I don't think BE would want Cincy back.

Syracuse is the only school that makes sense, they have a good football program too.

But then again, they survived years in the original Big East with a football program.

Nobody except UConn makes conference decisions based on basketball when you actually have a viable football team.

Football brings in the money even in the ACC which arguably has the most marketable basketball package of everyone.
