heard my first cicadas of the season yesterday while I was on the golf course.

hoping the woods around my house don't become a madhouse of cicadas this summer.

This year is the 17 year cycle of the periodical cicada. Expect to hear and see more than normal.

Oh, man.
I remember one of those years when I was growing up in Kentucky.
I remember my mama telling me about these special cicadas that only showed up once every 17 years.
Walking down the sidewalk became a very ... crunchy event.
 
This isn’t easy to do....but this thread makes me happy I’ll be in the steamy ass Florida summer this year.
 
Niece's dog in MD has been sniffing the ground relentlessly.

They believe this is the reason.

Must be why I don't remember cicadas because I was in toledo in 04 and 87

I'm between the red and yellow on that map, but I expect I will be hearing Brood X all summer.

Where is Rocko, he was the resident expert on Cicadas.
 
That's very kind of them to respect the border of Massachusetts

Except for that one little brood along the coast. It's sort of fascinating how they are spread about in different areas.
