Every time I'd fly home I'd stop at a Wawa on the drive between the airport and my parents house. I'd get home and my mom would ask if I was hungry... lol, nope. Now that they moved there's nothing but farms between shitty Elmira airport and their house.

As far as I am concerned there is no difference at all except as you mentioned local dialect is different depending upon where you are
Hoagie is more of a Philly regional thing, basically the same as a sub.
Grinder is a toasted sub, and is largely trash.
