TV Series Mare of Easttown

Was happy he wasn't part of the murder. Thought it would've been stupid as hell. He was there to make people wonder and then in the end go..."oh shit he really was just a good guy "
Earlier in the series I had a moment.....I even called it out as a possible candidate to the Mrs. I was already falling into the “they are just going to be as lazy as a weekly serial crime show” mode.

His “I just moved here” felt odd. I thought he disappeared the first girl and killed Erin for the briefest moment. Then I realized they were pretty clear that he and Mare were together until very late that night. It would have been too stupid to bend him into it.

I don’t get why people still thought it would be him after Ep 3 or so.

Folks were wondering why a high profile actor like Guy Pearce would take this kind of role.

They didn't understand there was a previous actor who couldn't commit after COVID halted production and Pearce stepped in as a favor to Winslet, having previously worked with her on Mildred Pierce (she won an Emmy?).

She did win an Emmy for Mildred Pierce. And she deserved it on that. But, if that’s a winner this would should be. Which probably means someone else will win this year.

Yeah, maybe that’s it with Pearce. No matter though....they were snookered in by the “special guest star”, you know that’s how he would have been billed if this was a Law and Order episode.

And the actress that played Lori is fairly high profile and she crushed it in the final episode.

There will be other good to great limited series up for awards. I won’t deny that. I probably also won’t catch them before the awards, or at all.

It’s very simple to me. It should get best limited series, best actress and best supporting actress (Nicholson). Both actresses won that in my view with the performance in the finale.

But no award for Pearce. That’s not what he was there for.....

Pearce has no shot ha.

If anyone runs on the supporting male side it will be Peters or the guy who played Dylan.

one question...

Who did Mare see on the security cam in the beginning? The one who vandalized the shed? Was that the kid next door? Why did she delete that vid? It seemed such an odd thing for her to do, I thought for sure it was going to come back later in the series.

It was that creepy looking kid next door.

I found it odd too. But I wonder if she saw something of her son in him and all she knew for sure is it was some petty vandalism. A little odd that she deleted it, but it also familiarized us with the security cam showing the shed, and boy did that come up again.

I rewatched the finale again the other night as the Mrs watched it. I can’t say there is really any male characters I felt should be in this.

Peters had a good role and he did very good. Same with the Dylan role. I thought the kid that played Ryan was brilliant in the finale, but he really didn’t have anything meaty before this.

Yeah as good as the acting was overall I think its only the ladies with any shots at noms and wins.

I give Peters an outside shot(without looking at the other contenders from other shows) since he was really quality and is a pretty big name these days, or at least quickly blossoming into a name most people know.

He injected some good things. For such a serious show they found place for humor. Apparently, Winslet and Jean Smart did lots of ad libbing that made it into the shots and gave that occasional humor break.

Peters did it some too. On one he said “good night, Mare” but it comes out like “good nightmare” and he just catches himself and plays with that. That got left in.

He was quality....just maybe a little too dopey for me. And, maybe that’s how he was supposed to play it. A guy with cred, but not fully serious enough to be someone that would just be a conflict to Mare.

It’s really going to come down to competition. But there should at least be a bunch of noms here.

And....not sure if anyone else noticed this. But, Andrew’s mom....the (trying to recover from being an addict is Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgewicks daughter. Once I noted that I couldn’t not see both parents in her face.

There was a running gag since the very first scene in the whole series that Mare found Betty to be really annoying, constantly bothering her.

But Betty was in turn annoyed by that boy. So Mare found that amusing, and she deleted the evidence so that the boy could keep annoying Betty, giving Betty a taste of her own medicine.

That’s a very fair read. Thought about that too, but wondered why she would want to set up other early morning annoyance calls from Betty.

Vandalism aside I’m sure she was amused at annoying Betty being called out like this.

Just finished it. I think it's fucked up how Mare arrested the kid and didn't just let it slide like the cop in Mystic River.

Only thing I didn't like about the show though was the lesbian daughter storyline that had no relevant purpose and was nothing but a waste of screen time.

The town and all of its problems sucks you in.
Her daughter had a chance to escape all of that and Mare recognized it.

Just like Mare had a chance with Guy Pearce's character, but couldn't commit because of her job/the town.
So off he goes.

It was completely uninteresting and unnecessary.
