Wasn't Douche in a private prep school away from home?
I believe so.

Two of my very best friends who are brothers went to prestigious boarding schools in New England for high school. I know the parents very well, and it was about the kids' educations, not getting rid of them, but still. I couldn't do that. That was wild because of how far away they were - they really only came home for major holidays and summer.

He's becoming more independent
Speaking of which, he's starting to show some interest in cooking. He likes to make pancakes, scrambled eggs and quesadillas.

Last night I grilled filets, which are his favorite steaks, and he was absolutely digging it and asked if I thought I could teach him how to make them. That was a proud dad moment. Can't wait to eat the first steak that he grills for me.

Which school was that again?

My dad had his knee replaced a few weeks ago. It's a rough recovery. My mom had her hip done a few years ago, and this seems to be much worse.
The recovery is going to suck for him, for sure. My parents haven't moved in about 30 years, so they're still in the house they bought to finish raising five hellions. Three stories, but they don't use the third much at all anymore. We'll see if they need some sort of semi-permanent sleeping arrangement set up for him on the first floor.

He's been walking with a really bad limp for a long time, though. And it's to the point now where, when they come here, my mom parks in the driveway so he doesn't have to try and shuffle across the street. He'd spent a few years stating that he didn't want to get buried with artificial joints, but I'm guessing now he'd rather be able to walk than need a Rascal.

Nope. Just another of the exaggerated SBisms.

My prep school wasn't a boarding school.
did you live under a roof that wasn't your parents while you attended?

aka, were you boarded?

This post compelled me to take off my ring.

It wasn't easy.
I guess early he couldn't get it past his knuckle and he just kept thinking swelling would go down on it's own, but instead got worse.

I think early they could've got it off past knuck with some mild discomfort, but

Word.

People tend to register for all kinds of stupid shit for their weddings. I know I did.

We have a few shelves in the basement of shit that we registered for and still haven't used once. At one point, we had twenty margarita glasses, more than half of which were never taken out of their original packaging. No idea what the hell we were thinking. I guess I thought I was going to open a Mexican restaurant. We've since re-gifted most of them.
we got a fondu pot, used it once

we registered for said pot

Sister told a story the other night. She and her husband and kids and in-laws were taking an Alaskan cruise. One of the girls bought a ring that ended up being too tight. They tried some things they had with them, soap and lotion, to no avail. They went into town to buy a lubricant, ended up with K-Y Jelly.

Her in-laws said, why did you buy that, we have some with us. I think they were in their late 70's at the time.

sister's wedding is this weekend in Philly...trying to figure out what to do with the morning before the ceremony while in Philly

My parents' room is also on the second floor, but they've set up some stuff for him to sleep on the main floor for the time being.

He's turned the corner though and is starting to make the switch from walker to cane.

maybe I should do something Rocky related...
