A Prophet

A French movie about an Arab guy/kid with no connections that goes to prison and eventually gets connected with a high level mafia member and and starts to rise and work connections with all the other groups. A really good really violent movie.

Same actor as the previous movie I reviewed. This movie is in English and also stars an older now gray haired Jody Foster. Also Aaron Rodgers soon to be wife who has a nice body but a face that only a closeted homo like Rodgers could pretend to love. Anyway, this movie about one of the guys who spent a like 14+ years at Gitmo but was eventually released after they didn't have enough evidence to release charge him. On one hand torture is bad and everything but I felt this movie went way too far in the extreme of everyone at Gitmo is 100% innocent and these are all good people and America is evil for detaining them all. At the end of the day a lot of these people, including the main character likely had a role to play in 9/11 so fuck em.

A movie going over the top to romanticize them with all these slow close up panning shots with inspirational dramatic music and the jihadis smiling and playing soccer together and talking of their homelands because they are all just fun loveable good people was a bit too much for me to stomach.

A guys mom was diagnosed with schizophrenia when he was a kid, now he's schizophrenic. The entire town thinks he's crazy, his wife is concerned. He sees things no one else sees like weird bird activity and storms, he builds a storm shelter a psychiatrist says you need to get away from the storm shelter. He his wife and daughter go to South Carolina, she sees the storm.

The movie was shit but the acting was decent.

Ash Is The Purest White

Chinese movie. First Chinese movie I've watched that wasn't Kung Fu or a movie from Hong Kong. Slow burn of a movie that spans nearly 2 decades following the lead lady. In a poor mining town with her BF who is a bit of a local gang guy. She ends up going to jail and when she gets out he's moved on but they keep getting drawn back to each other over the years. Kind of a sad movie. Chinese culuture is weird though from what I've seen of it in this movie. Streaming for free on Amazon Prime.



 
The death of me, I think, on netflix. 7 out of 10. Not bad, not great, stayed interesting mostly, and weird.
 
Just took the kids to go see the new Boss Baby movie. It was actually pretty good for a kids movie and a strong "family" message. Good stuff.
 
Tomorrow's War

A time travel movie that didn't seem to even care about getting the lines right or how anything would change or be impacted. The writing isn't very good, the story is meh at best, there are too many issues to really run through. With that said the FX are fairly decent, there is some ok humor but a lot is waste through dumb timing. The movie is also very predictable, I literally said out loud what would happen about half way through and that is more of a testament to the writing and story. Not much originality though it feels original.

5/10.
 
One False Move

Billy Bob's 1st writing effort as he co-wrote with Carl Franklin (who directed).

But he also along with Bill Paxton, stared in the movie.

3/10 is being generous.
They whole thing underperformed and the acting was terrible. Liev Schreiber's character was nearly unwatchable. I'm one of those types that has to see it through to the end, but I really wish I would have fallen asleep early on for this one.
 
Not what you'd call a fan of these guys. Nothing against them. Just never was all in on them.

But this Bluray is quite stunning. Initial B&W, brief Arizona colour, then back to B&W. I play it twice a year when weather is warm and I can view outside through open windows and around Xmas when I'm inside.

Can't say there is a shit song on it and the production and audio quality is extremely good. I love Bullet the Blue Sky and the gospel song.

We went and watched Old unfortunately. There were 5 people in the theater, all but me and the Mrs walked out early. First 4/5ths of the movie was predictable and complete garbage. I actually liked the last 20 minutes for some reason. On the Shamalouloa scale anyway.
