Saharan Dust is moving in

Happens all the time. That’s a big reason why Atlantic hurricanes generally form later in august. The Saharan dust hinders their development. When it subsides storms get stronger.

The Atlantic jetstream pushes the sand across the ocean to our shores.

Dust from the Sahara is why The Bahamas exist. There’s some rock like animal that feeds on the iron blown across the ocean

I remember seeing years ago, how scientists could go out into the Atlantic Ocean and take core samples of the bottom of the ocean, and it gave a detailed analysis of weather patterns coming off of Africa each year; each layer equaled one year.

They could go back thousands of years and see what drought/rainy conditions they had each year.

Yeah, from the Sahara Desert in Africa.
Moving up thru the over Cuba and into the Gulf.

In Texas now and has moved into Oklahoma
I guess it's probably all over the Southeastern U.S.

Suppose to get hazy. Blue skies won't be as blue, and sunrise/sunsets will be great.

I guess it happens more than I thought.
Anyone heard of this.

every year for the past 10 years its feels like

It's really hazy today. As bad as it's been.

Anyone else notice anything
It’s slipped right around the FL peninsula and we are staying muggy and rainy.

But, I have been there. It was either last summer or the one before that it was hazy as hell….hot as it too.

I remember pics from somewhere down in the Caribbean at the same time where it looked like LA smog almost. It’s noticeable when it’s strong and over you.

Crazy sky here all afternoon.

I was assuming smoke from wildfires. But was it African sand?

Felt like sunset started 5 hours before sundown. Then there wasn’t really a sunset. And the sky is still weird an hour after the sun went down.

Sounds just like the dust. It makes late afternoon like some weird light filter a Director would use. As for sunsets…I want to say last year there were lots of sunset shots on the west coast of FL that were amazing. But I think you have to be right on the coast to see that.

i want to drown myself now... on the trip last week. we had to wake up in vero beach to watch the sunrise. and go to clear water for the sunset.

Sky is crazy right now with the moon.

Was like this in the UP back around the 4th. But that was from smoke coming down from Canadian wildfires.

That’s a little under 3 hrs of driving. Always been worth it to me.

The wild dogs cry out in the night.
As they grow restless, longing for some solitary company.
I know that I must do what's right,
As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeeetiiiii

Don't worry these three will solve it/stop it from happening again

We're not getting that Sahara Dust Storm stuff, but we're sure got the west coast smoke in the air out here in the Northeast this evening. Got some thunderstorms coming thru tomorrow (Wed.), so should clear this stuff out for awhile.

Makes for interesting "haze"...
