Just seems like a lot of bias and subjectivity. I’m not saying the participants aren’t athletes, but I have a hard time calling them sports. To me a sport needs a sure fire way to determine a winner. Score more points than your opponent, get across the line first, etc

Even boxing and MMA should go until knockout or tap out

Excuse me ma'am, this is my area of expertise. Please direct your concerns to me.

Well, what’s the verdict, sir?
I can only assume you are talking about gymnastics, with regards to judging? You would be correct, that it is not a sport. They are activities/hobbies, that are also competitive, but not a sport. Hence the reason they are called the Olympic GAMES, and not SPORTS. There are however some sports involved in the Olympics.

MMA and boxing are clearly sports, due to direct conflict with another combatant. It is up to the fighter to not allow the judges to make the decision, and if not it has to go them. I remember when the UFC had no weight limits or rounds. Its better now.

I agree with the first part. Gymnastics, figure skating, diving, etc

I think boxing and MMA are hybrids. It’s a sport when there’s a KOnor submission, but not when it goes to the judges.

I was a big Tank Abbot fan as a kid. Loved early UFC, and always preferred Pride to UFC and wish UFC would adopt Pride rules

Now you're correct. The problem with it going to the judges, is more about who they select to be judges. In my opinion it should be former fighters and coaches ONLY. If you have never been in a ring/octagon, you have no right to be a judge in those events. If they went this route, there would be many less sketchy outcomes, and would be better for the sports in general. You cant just say its not a sport because of a flawed judging system, when everything to that point is clearly raw sport.

Pride was better back in the day, and tank abbot should have stopped fighting many years before he did. The technical fighting was too much for him, and his knees. He was a self proclaimed bar room brawler, and no doubt he was just that. The game simply passed him by. He would never make it in todays MMA, even if he was young.

I just get soured on the judges in MMA and boxing. When your favorite fighter dominates a fight for the LHW title but gets screwed by the judges, it makes the whole thing seem like a joke. Long live Shogun Rua. I guess I’ll back off though since there is a clear and defined path to victory in those. But I don’t like the judges aspect at all.

Tank was just action, was never gonna be good for anything more than a few memorable knockouts. He was MMA’s Butterbean, just less skilled. He was fun though.

I used to get hyped the fuck up for his fights. You knew if he landed it could be over RIGHT NOW! Then people started leg licking the cartilage out of his knees, and it was just sad to watch.

There used to be Olympic competition for painting....
gary coleman wtf GIF

SHOT YOU!

NUH UH, I SHOT YOU FIRST!

Yes. There’s a clear and defined path to victory. Score more points than the other team, not have more style or flashy moves to get a higher score from a judge.
Sport must have direct conflict between opponents, or have an opponent directly involved in stopping you from achieving your goal.

So, if something is not a sport, are those who participate in ... whatever it is that is not a sport ... athletes?

So, does that mean baseball isn’t a sport if you’re playing against the Texas Rangers?
