Joe Judge is losing his shit

I love how football players are crying about sprints. Retiring on the spot. Awesome.

Getting bag skated or line rushes (the equivalent to sprints) is essentially an accepted "thing" in hockey.

yaa man, hockey ith tha coolethst sthport evar

I think it's foolish for coaches to use running as a form of punishment.

1) You're creating a negative connotation to something that's essential for the success of their job.
2) You're replacing valuable learning/repetition time with punishment time.

I mean...that's one way to look at it...

I don't know a single "physical" sport where running isn't used as a form of "punishment". It's used that way because largely, physical athletes hate running. On the same token, running helps with conditioning. You're not going to tell guys to lift as a form of punishment because you could hurt yourself with overtraining, you aren't going to hurt yourself by running.

Why is "punishment" seen as a bad thing anyway?

Yeah, most people hate running. That said, a wise coach should attempt to inject a desire to want to run as a means to success. By using it as punishment a coach is creating the opposite effect and potentially stifling his own team's successes.

A wise coach uses every failure as a constructive teaching tool.

Speaking of the Giants....Jason Garrett is way too much of a failed coach to have this kind of ego

I’m going to show my age….but this used to be one of the ways you built a tough team that could win.

There was clearly disciplinary failures going on on the field. Running as a punishment never sat right with me, but it was something.

It raises the question again though….it’s a game that requires organization and discipline. How is a coach supposed to enforce that is what’s going on as a whole team?

Giants have now had three veterans retire this week.

No different than when college coaches come in to change the culture...

Lulz.

Judge was here last year. If the culture needed to be changed, it shouldn't be happening in his second camp.

Meanwhile, there's video all over Twitter of JT Ibe decapitating Keith Kirkwood, which sent Kirkwood to the hospital and Ibe to the free agent list.

The Giants' beat writers suck.

Why was he kicked out of practice?
That didnt look intentional or vindictive.

Shoulder to helmet on a receiver that wasn't making the play. Bad enough when it's 15 yards and maybe gets you kicked out of a game, but doing it to a teammate is worse.

It has its place, but these guys are professionals, and grown ass men. You cant approach them like a pee wee football team, and do dumb shit. You have to rely on them buying into a system and working hard. You have to have great leaders on the team that hold guys accountable. Things just arent same, right or wrong.

You dont get results by old school tactics at the NFL level. You have to build a belief and a trust that you are going to put guys in positions to win, if they put pressure on themselves to be better. Call it what you want, but this shit is going to end horribly if this is all true.

I think Belichick would disagree. He seems to have been pretty successful with his way or the Highway.
Before him Jimmy Johnson. They could be total dicks when they felt the need. The coach you make it sound like they have to be was Barry Switzer. Those coaches fail more often than not vs. the hard core ones. There is always the Tony Dungy's of the NFL. Which was probably the kindest coach of them all. Also might be the exception to the rule.
Now to your side of the argument. It cant be black & white. Hard ass or too soft. HCs have to be a sort of Psychologist. Some respond better with hardassness & some respond with a pat on the back.
But as as soon (excluding Dungy) a HC is soft he is done in this league.
These players (big names college players) were pampered nowadays from the peanut leagues. They already think they are special (the Haskins of the world) if you cant make them realize they are the lucky ones to be playing this game. You will fail as a HC.
As soon as the players have more pull than the HC the HC is done. As soon as management or the owner allows the players to have more pull the team is done. All these young fucks need the discipline. of course a HC can go over the line. But treating these guys like they are too good to be disciplined is creating a failure. As a HC you make them understand you are in control, not them. Then once you feel you have that. You give them their small win(s). if the HC is not controlling the narrative. Then they are not the HC.

Hell I dont want to talk good of another NFC East HC but Tom Coughlin was an extreme hardass lots of players wished they didnt play for. But they were professionals & they got the results (unfortunately) Weed out the weak I say. Will make the team stronger in the long term.

Dick Vermeil made Kurt Warner a HOFer.

It wasn’t by being a dickhead.

Bruce Arians takes players he doesn’t want. So other guys will buy in more.

Joe Judge isn’t tHoodie. And no matter what, this Giants team isn’t very good outside of its division. It’s just not. They could break rocks all day, not gonna matter.

I’m happy to have a HC of the team I root for doing push ups with his dudes, instead of calling them queers in front of their teammates. Leave that shit for rocket football, when you can make a difference in somebodies life.

Dick Vermeil is another one (My bad on that) Still pretty rare.
Agree Judge isnt tHoodie.
He may end up being another nothing sandwich. He is not my point.
The idea we have to coddle Football players to get them to their potential was my point with Peter. That is a very new age point of view that typically doesnt work.
Letting the asylum run the ward is never a good idea. Even in this day & age.

Didn't realize this, but Gettleman also talked Kelvin Benjamin back into playing football for the Giants this spring, wanting him to play TE. Apparently Judge decided that Benjamin needed to be 251 to be "fit" enough to be a tight end (Benjamin played WR at almost 270). Benjamin passed his physicals and conditioning tests and was cut after the first day of practice for protesting being fined for being overweight.

Gettleman has been horrible for the Giants, tbh.

he was a pretty awesome GM for the Panthers. Jerry Richardson fired him because Gettleman handled it like a business and wasn't empathic enough towards the players. Panthers have been garbage ever since.

Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where the guy makes everyone call him maestro.
