Movie Black Widow (2021)

I thought it was pretty good. The action and fighting sequences were great and I loved all of her "family" members. But I kinda wish this story could have come out before Endgame. Knowing what happens to Natasha sorta put a bittersweet damper on it for me.

Watched it with the family Thursday night. 4 things that stuck out to me.

1. The helicopter scene on the prison break was a bit over the top. No way it could sustain that much small arms fire and then heavy anti aircraft fire from the tower and keep flying but of course it's just a movie

2. When the red room was blowing up Natasha just happen to see a parachute sitting right there for her to grab and jump. Come on, that was cheesy.

3. The scene where all the black widows were beating the crap put of Natasha just seemed creepy like a bunch of zombie Karen's standing around panting at her.

4. Taskmaster was done a disservice. They totalled ruined that character.
Overall I enjoyed it. I liked it better than Thor 2 and Ironman 2.

Spoilers 1-3 I agreed while with watching it but I reminded myself arguably the best character in the MCU is a talking racoon from outer space so it takes a bit of disbelief. No. 4 agree to disagree. Iron Man 3 did something similar and personally I loved that twist. Aside from turning a solid multi movie antagonist into a potential protagonist they did right by the character. I'm not a comic book guy and can see how that fanbase is pissed but for the casual fan it worked.

Watched this weekend and it was fun but we’ve seen this storyline several times before and done better like Atomic Blond.

Worth watching but it could have been so much better. I wish the team that did Captain America Winter Soldier had done this because they nailed that storyline.

Just saw it. Was kinda meh. It tried too hard to have an “emotional” story and there’s no real ultimate bad guy battle. It was a pretty “girl power” movie, as I asked and figured it would be.

I usually see any hints of “Girl Power” or “You go Girl” in movies, and to be honest, this movie didnt really have it, imho. I mean, if you squint just right and play the movie at the right speed, maybe you can see some, but I didn’t see too much blatant “girl good; boy bad” in this one.

The protagonist was a female. The antagonist was a male. If this qualifies, does that mean anytime the reverse exists it is a chauvinistic movie?

The “dad” was a bit of a hot mess, but he was probably the best new character in the movie. Having flaws <> bad character.

I am not defending the MCU on “Girl Power” moments. The girl-pose in Endgame was so cringe-worthy, it alone probably dropped my overall rating of that movie by about a full point on a 10-point scale. The entire Captain Marvel movie was just painful.

...the entire plotline was that a man was in complete control of the all-female team of assassins... granted, this may be how the comicbook storyline goes, it's the entire plot of the movie. The scene in the helicopter when she goes into detail about how her reproductive abilities were controlled by the dude...

I get that, but none of that is new. All of that was already known in the MCU. I didn’t get a sense of “ALL men are evil” vibe from this one. It was just an extrapolation of what we already knew of her backstory.

Gotcha.

I'm not uber into the comic book shit. I pick and choose which of the superhero movies I watch, so I don't know enough about the back stories of the characters. I just went off of the story presented in this movie.

I noticed this is avail on Disney+ now. I guess this quick turn around is likely to be the norm moving forward, but it seemed a bit fast to me.

I will probably rewatch it this weekend.
