Who’s the most beloved athlete in your state?

You’d think a roided up Texan that was cheating on his wife with pop Country divas would be down to brawl with a rich kid.

Clemens: "crap, i didn't kill him. guess i'll have to try and throw something sharper at him in the world series"

as a kid that was growing up in this era, the media tried its hardest to teach me that guys like Clemens are POS, cheated the game and should never be allowed into the HOF. As an adult, I'm starting to not gaf + think it just seems wrong that some of the biggest sports names of my childhood are being excluded from the baseball HOF.

tbh, i'd rather have steroid users like Clemens in the HOF than a guy like Harold Baines.

Clemens handled it bad too, and he is a douche. I don’t like him, but not because of roids, and Piazza will always be a candy ass in my eyes for not charging the mound when Clemens threw that piece of a broken bat at him. With a malicious action like that, one of them needed to leave with a whipped ass
Seriously, how much of a pussy was Piazza when he was absolutely pumped to the gills with ‘roids and still couldn’t manage a decent rage?

100% agreed.

I used to be staunchly against PED users in the HOF because that’s the message I was told growing up. As I get older, the more I want them in

For people 60 and older, probably Bob Gibson.

For people 60 and younger maybe Eric Crouch, Doug McDermott or Ahman Green

He was a leader in Boston on a bunch of stacked teams. Barry, McGwire and Sosa were leaders on the national stage when they gave the country what they wanted and saved America’s pastime

what specifically did Bonds, McGwire and Sosa do that made them leaders that “saved baseball” ?

They hit a bunch of dingers and got people watching again. True leadership. Not above using a needle to save the sport they loved and held dear. Ortiz only helped Boston when he wasn’t trying to kill his teammates with a bat. They helped the whole country.

Don't forget that they helped Canada, too.

yeah… that’s not leadership and if that’s the best you’ve got then you’re clearly trolling or just stupid. You may wanna lay off cleaning your hands with brake fluid. Clearly the chemicals are leeching into your skin and affecting your brain cells more than you care to admit.

Funny, how you glorify their roid usage but hate on Ortiz for his. Doesn’t take a genius to figure out why.

He is one of the best players to have ever played the game. It’s too bad @dbldwn711 doesn't think was a leader just because he wasn’t fortunate enough to have played on a team that won the World Series.

again, you like to misrepresent what people say so you can “win”. I said Ortiz if a leader. Do you deny that? I said bonds wasn’t much of one. Do you disagree with that? I said Ortiz’s leadership was a big part of his teams winning 3 rings. Do you disagree with that?

btw… still waiting for you to show me where I said those three previous other things you claimed I said. You can feel free to show me any time.

It takes true leaders to save a sport

Either Bonds needs a free pass or Ortiz needs crucified.

Your only argument about either’s leadership was rings. It’s an amazingly stupid argument. I have moved forward with mocking you until you display an ounce of actual sports knowledge rather than blind homerism.

Without the leadership and sacrifices made by guys like Bonds, McGwire and Sosa to save their sport, Ortiz would have never had the chance to become a roid fueled hot headed monster in Boston. Baseball would have been dead. Show some respect.

Imma show muh kids this thread as an example of how to have a hyperbolic "debate".

I said he was a leader who led his teams to championships. You trying to twist that into the above is simply not accurate. Couple that with the fact that you attributed OTHER false statements to me and you’ve shown you’re intellectual dishonesty.

Funny, I’m a “blind” homer for Ortiz but you’re not one for Bonds? You’re not a bonds apologist because of your “homerism”?

I’ve made no secret of my appreciation for Bonds nor have I sought to minimize his negatives. He’s one of the best players to have ever played the game and he is a flawed human being as well. His arrogance led him to PEDs because he couldn’t stand the attention others were getting. That said, if I was picking up teams and had to choose Bonds or Ortiz to be on my team, I would choose Bonds so fast it would make your head spin as would anyone who actually understands baseball.

The bottom line is either cheating matters or it doesn’t. Ortiz shouldn’t get a free pass because he’s more likable or because he reminds people of Florida from Good Times. If he’s in, Bonds should be in since he was a far better player. If Bonds is out, Ortiz should be out.
