don't @me about 2/10 pf plz.. I have a serious science question.

My friend is a little bit of a hypochondriac and has been tested for covid a bunch of times. Has put herself in a shit ton of situations where she could get it - like bars that stayed open undercover, plus her roommates all had it. Never once tested positive. Got the moderna vax a few months ago (april, I think) and tested negative a few weeks after that. She's supposed to be going in for some elective surgery next week so they had her take another covid test yesterday and it came back positive. She's completely symptomless, but the surgery is at risk of being cancelled (her doctor is going to have her test again tomorrow, just in case it's a false positive). But the info they provided with the results is completely retarded:

So let me get this straight: if you had the virus, you have antibodies. If you get the vaccine, you have antibodies. If you get the virus after getting the vaccine, you also have antibodies. Antibodies present denotes that currently you have the virus? Which you can also have from a previous infection/vaccine? Why the fuck would you even test someone who had the vaccine? Won't it always be a positive test?

They should do a viral test, which should determine if she has covid right now. If she was given an antibody test and it came back positive, it means she possibly had covid in the past, which doesn't tell you much for right now. Since she's vaxxed, its also possible her system has enough antibodies to show up in the test, but that's not always the case (its complicated in a sciencey way, people's bodies react differently). But they shouldn't get a positive viral test just because they have the vaccine. Viral and antibody tests measure two different things. Unless I'm reading it wrong (its late), it sounds like they gave her the wrong test

uggh, waking up around midnight after you passed out at 1800 is never good. seeing the texts you sent before that is sad too. but here we are, ready to do it again.

not for nothing, but your friend sounds like a dumb bitch and i wouldn't take their word for anything.

don't know any hypochondriacs that are trying to put their selves in situations to get sick.

El Boss is gone, fuckerpants!! Stop torturing me about him! :bawling:

Actually, he texted me a couple weeks ago to say hi & stuff then I texted him on his birfday. That should be good for a few months.
Wow, yourn spank bank gets better gas mileage than mine.

I’m covered either way :beer2:

Yeah, she’s a fuckin’ dummy. She asked for an antibody test several months ago after her second roommate got it and she didn’t have symptoms. But she never ended up taking the test. So when she went in for her covid test, they also did the antibody and those are the results she received, not to a covid test :L

and hypochondriac is probably the wrong word, but it seems like she goes to the doctor for EVERY LITTLE THING, while I go once a year, because I’m supposed to.
