Big 12 thread

Was reading some more whiny ass letters to the sports editor this morning from Oklahoma State fans about OU leaving the Big XII and how Jr. should freeze us out of playing them anymore.

Question: Wouldn't it be smarter for Jr. to want OU to win SEC championships in different sports after OSU had beaten Oklahoma's goat smelling ass in Bedlam games? That can't happen unless we are playing each other. I would think someone at OSU will figure that out before they burn any bridges. That's the best way I can think of to make Oklahoma State a great addition to any other conference.
It’s all emotion and pride. Right now they are letting that be the catalyst in talking this big game. But when push comes to shove I would bet OSU would be the one pushing for this game. I’m not sure how the hell this doesn’t help OSU more then it helps OU, especially if no P5 is picking them up at the moment. Besides it maybe being an easy W for OU, it’s beneficial for OSU to have a (now) SEC blueblood visit Boone Pickens every other year.

Logic and emotion are two different things.

Personally I don't have an issue continuing the series for basketball and Olympic events (we'd gladly continue wrestling I'm sure) but football is a different animal. We can't win right now as things presently stand that isn't likely to change. That being said, if it's something we can leverage to find a decent landing spot then it might be worth it.

If the football series is to continue it needs to be played in September though. Our biggest disadvantage in Bedlam is it always happens late in the year. People in the conference beat OU in September and early October because everyone is healthy. The further in the season we get, teams without depth get banged up and that creates an advantage you guys have had for quite a while. You look at our last two Bedlam wins-one was a historically great team for us that managed to stay relatively healthy and the other was what seems like the only time in the last 15 years or so your starting quarterback was hurt. Those aren't coincidences.

To answer your question though, I want what's best for Oklahoma State. If it is to our benefit for you to be good, so be it. But I'll laugh my ass off when Bama and LSU run a train on you guys back to back weeks.
What’s that like?

I was thinking more like a 2 for 1 deal and go there every third year.
Eventually I could see that but right off the bat I doubt OSU goes for that and that’s probably a good way to have the series end for a decade Or so.

WHAT IF........

The covid thing still isn't over. What if covid threw a curve ball and Bowlsby had a chance to seriously damage OU's march to a National Championship? Even if it would cost the conference some money, would he do it out of spite to send Oklahoma a message? And how would the rest of the conference feel about that?

It is for sure the "covid thing" still isn't over. And a great majority of new cases are in the younger crew from what I understand. College age folks are in that group. So it could impact athletes as well. We learned last year they aren't just going to "hole up" and not socialize. They've got keg parties to go to!

If Bowlsby did do such he'd be cutting off his nose to spite his face. But hey, people do a lot of selfish, spiteful things for various reasons. Along the border we always say you've got to look at the "motivas" behind an action just as much as the action itself.

How would he do that? OU would have to be the team with the covid infections. If that were the case wouldn't they have done it to themselves?

OU losing its 3rd RB for this year. Marcus Major no school so well. Academically ineligible for the season. Down to Brooks and the 2 transfers at running back.

That sucks as Marcus Major was coming on strong last year. Too bad Rhmondre Stevenson didn't come back. But he's tearing it up in New England so looks like he made the right choice.

Do they have an experienced RB that can pick up a blitz on Rattler?

How? Tweak a rule, find an exception to a by-law.......it's impossible to predict. A lot of things change on the fly when there's a bunch of dust in the air and covid could be the catalyst for something like that to occur. Would he screw OU? We were talking about this last night at dinner. I said he wouldn't but I was convinced he'd do it if he thought it would ingratiate himself with the 8 remaining schools. And how sweet would it be to see OU have the door shut on a NC when we're loaded? Paybacks are a bitch. I'm now inclined to think he'd take the opportunity to do OU dirty while proclaiming all kinds of high minded reasons for "just doing the right thing".

I mean Riley doesn't put you out there if you aren't able to block. And Brooks has played 2 seasons and ran for over 1,000 yards each season at OU. Hadn't watched Gray a ton, but he's got a lot of snaps from Tennessee and many believe he'll actually be the starter at this point.

He's fucking done when TX/OU cut their GOR checks in 2022 anyways. That's when the remaining Orphan 8 get blown up.

Surely he knows that.

That's what I was referring.

OU's lost some RB's but they've still got some experience for pass-pro.
