Looking into getting a dog. What a complete pain this process is. First I always hear "You should adopt", "Adopt! Adopt! Adopt!" Well, okay, I look into my local animal shelters and every single dog available is about 9 years old and is missing an eye. Any younger dog, that is in the puppy - 9 months age range is a very rare find to find on the website and is usually gone within minutes. Or their bio is "Not good with other dogs." "Not good with being in a house." "Not good with people."

So I gave the adopting option a good effort, but the selection is extremely minimal.

Then you look into breeders. I can't tell if I am trying to get a puppy or applying for a job. The selection is usually pretty minimal and it is super competitive and if you are serious about getting a puppy you have to file an application, and have an in-person interview with some even requesting they visit your home. On top of that if you're lucky enough to get the dog it'll cost you $2,000+.

I just want a damn dog. What happened to the days of having $200 and paying for a mutt and that was that.

what size dog do you want?

I see plenty of young dogs?

Adopting can be a pit of pain, some groups really go over the top which is annoying. Our local humane society is bit easier and gets dogs of all ages, sizes, etc

Do both so they have a frand to hang out with while you're at work.

I paid 2 grand for our faggot, and drove 12 hrs rd trip in one retarded day with my kids in tow to pick up the idiot. Since then, the fucker has destroyed at least another 3-4 grand worth of shit. Wood baseboards, shoes, clothes, carpet, Christmas, lulz...you name it.

Pets are the most overrated thing ever. Walk away and go on vacation. Oh, that's another thing, have fun never going anywhere again, or paying for boarding.

Fuck dogs. Fuck dog-lovers, and super extra fuck all the adopt a dog lunatics.

omg! Butters is so keeeyute!!

ADOPT!!! Breeders have time & money to sell dogs, buyers looking for specific breeds all the time. Homeless animals are hard to move & have to be put down after so much time at the Humane Society.

I've always had H/S dogs.... They are the best!!!! Great feeling owning one too.

Mine were Microchipped, Fixed, Tax Write off (our local Humane Society is a Non Profit) & a health guarantee!!!

Typically, a breeder is the way to go. You need to do your research, visit the operation (probably his/her house), and meet the parents of the puppy. You'll pay more, but you're getting a puppy with guaranteed health, that isn't awash in psychological problems and that you can train from scratch to be a good dog. Also, be warned that breeders are weird people, since they make a living getting dogs to fuck and then sell off the babies.

Shelters fulfill a great function, but as you say, they're full of dogs that are old, sick and rejected. The people who adopt such dogs are good people, but there will always be an oversupply of them, until people stop treating dogs as shiny objects, and not members of the family. Whenever I've been by a shelter, the "choice" is either a mangy pit bull mix or a shivering chihuahua mix. Do your part and get your dog spayed/neutered and reasonably up to date on vaccinations.

Every single Dog in the Rescue is fucked in the head.

People don't want to think about all the fucked up things this Dog has gone thru to get to that point.

Adopt. Don’t pay a bunch of money for some overpriced, genetically compromised dog from a breeder that’s just going to cost you a shitload of money and likely be sickly its entire (short) life.

Start with a cactus.

If you keep from killing it, don’t get a pet d00d for real. You’ll only end up burying it in Scenario Village.
