"I think that is appropriate for college sports," Blank told the members of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. "I think it is somewhat outrageous that the highest-paid employee in many states is their state university college coach."

Oh, if only we could enforce our congressmen to operate under a merit based pay system.

I could see states doing this for public schools, as they are "public servants," but doing this at the national level??? GTFO with that BS. Too much overreach.
Not only that, but it takes a lot of gall for any person lining their pockets in Washington to worry about what someone else makes. Not saying these specific Congress people are doing this, but it does go on there.

While not "public servants" per se, we had a similar bruhaha here in the Lone Star State a few years ago. Seems our legislators were enraged about school districts building $60 million high school football stadiums. Only problem was the money used to pay for those was voted on and approved by the tax payers. The Texas Legislature hasn't been considered a tree full of owls for many years now. At least not in my view.

I guess if a University gets any Federal Money in any way, Congress could pass a law.

It does seem to be a little outrageous.
Is a standard could be set, then it would be fair to everyone.

But, then the good ones just go to the NFL.

I have question. Let's use Saban as an example. We know he is making one hellava lot of money, but how much of that is U. of Alabama responsible for?

yeah boosters pay for a big portion of the salary

Waiting for that 75 mil to buy us that 9th win...

I'm not sure that would be legal. I suspect the federal government has no power over state-run Universities and their employees. It would have to be done at the state level in every state.

It doesn't matter he is underpaid.

The money he has brought into the University and the increased interest and enrollment has been a bonanza for Bama. Plus he has basically created an economic engine for Tuscaloosa due to the success and expansion that has taken place. I hate him but I'll call it like it is.

Believe it was the late Jerry Tarkanian who once vowed that he would never coach in the NBA, since unlike college hoops, it had a salary cap. :dhd:

Federal government has no business in this space they need to GTFO

Congress can go F itself. On the other hand, salaries are downright ridiculous. Example: Oklahoma has an associate women's basketball coach making $200,000/yr base pay. Yeah, 200 Grand for a sport that's NEVER going to pay its own way. And Oklahoma has 218.4 Million of athletics related debt. All we need is some dickhead in Washington D.C. telling us they know better than we do how to manage a budget.
