Woke up at 4 instead of my usual 5 due to the damn cat meowing for my wife. Decided I may as well get a head start and leave for my hour commute a little early as well. Sure enough I get 5 minutes from work on the bypass (65 mph zone) as the sun is starting to come up and she shot out of nowhere from the right.

Waiting to see what the adjuster says the estimated damage is, but it was drivable and only appears to be cosmetic damage.

Ouch.

I had a doe once hum and haw and look indecisive at the road side as I approached her.

I slowed, and suddenly she decided she was going for it.

She saw me at the last second and literally leaped over my car.

Thankfully I was in my S4 Audi which is small and she missed me completely. But I saw 4 hooves in my front window and the rear as she cleared me.

If I'd been in some form of urban assault vehicle contact would have been made for sure.

When i lived in amish county PA - deer were horrible and it constantly fogged up and was just a recipe for disaster. I was going 40 in the fog one night..just flashed my brights and saw the silhouette of 3 deer right in front of me.

Oof! And I thought almost clipping a squirrel's tail this morning was living dangerously!

Looks expensive. Full bumper, crease in fender and probably headlight assembly. A couple grand.

Tenderized.
That’s why you have to have a Wildlife officer’s card in your car. “Hey man I accidentally hit a deer…can I keep the meat so it doesn’t so to waste” as long as you get permission you are good to go.

We need to get a tag but same situation. I butchered one after my wife hit it. Lots of destroyed meat.

Nope. Definitely wouldn't want the carcass sitting in the bed all day in 90+ degree heat while I was teaching, nor do I have room in the freezers right now.

$500 deductible, so we'll see what numbers he runs on the estimate.

Headlight looks good, but fog light is toast. The grill is also cracked, but at least no radiator or suspension damage I could tell on my drive home.

Shameful.

I call bullshit on this. Where are the pictures of the carcass, and more importantly, how many steaks did you get off of her?
