Well Butters, the poor guy only weighs 4 pounds and he's still not his old self but at least I'm relieved he ain't in grave danger.

Doing nothing is not an option and the vet said we have two choices. Surgery or amputation. I won't decide until I know the cost. And he is 11, not 12. This is him today. And yesterday. And the day before yesterday.

tough situation pal. I feel for ya. Owning a pet is a big responsibility. Hope it all works out. Keep us informed.

Btw… he at least looked happier when he was high as kite
 
I see dogs with missing limbs all the time. Get him one of those wagon thingies that harness on. Dress him up in a Greatest American Hero costume.
 
Euthanize him.....with you as an owner.....it's the most humane thing you can do.

Because of the holiday weekend things got pushed back a day but the little guy got admitted to the dog hospital on the UGA campus in Athens last night. UGA has a vet school and apparently a full operating clinic/hospital with all the best imaging equipment etc. I don't know if he will come home today or not. He was in so much pain all weekend and that was the hardest part.

Butters is in worse shape than we realized. The poor little guy has Cushings disease which is a degenerative condition and although treatable, it's the root cause of all his physical problems. Muscle loss and bone deterioration are a couple symptoms of major concern. It also might explain his broken leg.

And about his leg, it will be amputated within 2 weeks. The vet wants him stable on his new Cushings medication before he operates.

Thanks guys! I feel pretty good that Butters will be on the mend now that he's been diagnosed. For the past 2 years I thought he was just aging super fast or some weird thing. In a way I suppose he was aging super fast, that's what that Cushings disease does. I just hope we can give him a couple or 3 more happy & healthy years. Thanks again for your kind concern.
