For some. I don't think thats the case for everyone. I think @ThePeoplesChicken said it best that it accelerates problems. To stick with the vandalism example, sure people have always vandalized their high school, but now we've seen an uptick with it because its become a trend on tik tok.

Just look at politics the last decade plus and see how volatile it has gotten. Hell we have to essentially self ban it from this thread. It hasn't always been this way. I truly believe its largely (but not only) because social media has transitioned more to giant group think areas. Whether that be politics or just cultural movements. Social media wasn't always like this. Atleast that wasn't my experience during Myspace and the early days of Twitter and Facebook.
I think there's a few differences between what we observed as utes versus where we are now. Social media didn't exist when I was in college, I think the closest thing was like LiveJournal. Again, social media might amplify the crazy voices more, but I don't think that there's more crazy people. It's just that now, instead of standing on a milk crate outside of a post office in Bumfuck, Iowa, and being ignored by almost everyone, the crazies have a way to get their message out.

Guy we golfed with Saturday has season tickets to the Crew, and offered them to us if we wanted to go to a game. Need to pick a game to go to before the season ends

There is absolutely more crazies now simply thanks to the massive increase in anti-depression drug abuse and other “mental health” issues exasperated by the use of social media.

We both agree that it gives the crazies a way to get their message out. I just think you dismiss the impact or influence those messages have.

Also maybe some of our difference here is how we are determining "crazy". I'm not saying social media has caused more legit mentally insane people that should be locked up in a mental institution. But rather has caused more people to do dumb shit or push "crazy" ideas or movements.

I think it amplifies the fringe voices, certainly. And I do believe that it does have potential ramifications beyond "people can hear the loons now", which I believe is probably best addressed in a different forum.

But again, while maybe the dumb TikTok vandalism shit goes on more than it did in the world of Tumblr, people have been doing dumb shit for social acceptance for thousands of years.

Not to mention the number of football dads...

I won’t talk about football on this alleged sports board anymore. You old guys can continue with your talk about covid, campers and fishing. I guess fishing is kind of a sport.

No politics, no sports. You know the rules.

Go Revs!

But that would be a cool stadium to see a match

Sure people have always done stupid shit. And people will always continue to do stupid shit. Its in our nature. I just think the fringe is growing at a faster rate than population growth, and much to do with social media.

Also agree that many of the ramifications are political and where it seems the majority of crazies gravitate to for whatever reason. Which is why i wasn't trying to go into too much detail here.
