He had a great season, don't get me wrong, but MVP?

His team missed the playoffs, and he didn't have the season that Tatis and Soto did if you're gonna go that route.

Autin Riley and Paul Goldschmidt finished with a higher WAR on the season than Harper, and their teams actually made the playoffs.

And Harper came up incredibly small when the Phillies' season was on the line. 0-14 with 6 k's and one walk while his team got swept by the Braves and eliminated from the playoffs.

If you're gonna give it to the best position player, the MVP has to be Juan Soto.

If you're gonna give it to the biggest difference maker on a contending team, I'll go the homer route and say give it to Austin Riley.

I’m surprised Mike Trout isn’t in the MVP conversation

Harper led the league in OPS and OPS+

fwiw, Harper had a higher fWAR than Riley and Goldschmidt. Riley and Goldschmidt has him beat on bWAR.

just because your team doesn't make the playoffs with you doesn't mean you don't provide value. And besides, there isn't really anyone that stands out. I think there's a bunch of players you could make an argument for, and I don't think that many of them actually came from playoff teams.

And it's not like voters put nearly the emphasis on it that they used to. Two of Trout's MVP seasons were on non-playoff teams, Stanton won on a 77-win Marlins team, and Harper won one playing for an 83-win Nats team.

you answered your own question. he had a great season, and the people next to him also missed the postseason. his second half numbers were also better than the bolded.

Soto leads the NL in bWAR and is tied in fWAR with Harper. Trea Turner leads the NL in fWAR, but is half a win behind Soto in bWAR.

How many of the 30 voters do you think look at those standings?

You missed the entire second half of the OP

You missed the entire second half of the OP
The entire second half of the OP was missable. Harpers performance in the final Phillies-Braves series won’t weigh as much as you want it to.

No supporting statistics to Soto being the prospective winner.

The homerism is the only good part of the second half of the OP, because at least you’re being honest with us there.

Juan Soto WAR- 7.0
Bryce Harper WAR- 5.9
Austin Riley WAR- 6.1

WAR
huh
Good God y''all
What is it good for
Absolutely nothin
Say it again

Fair. But WAR alone isn’t digging deep enough. It just suits your purpose here.
It’s pretty deep.

But I’d also give it to Riley because he kept the team treading water between Acuna going down and the trade deadline when Guillermo Heredia, Orlando Arica and Abraham Almonte were in the lineup every day and was a rock when Freddie stumbled out of the gate and Marcel Ozuna broke his thumb and beat his wife with his cast
