Friday...a day in the week

Sorta. Next game is going to be ugly as the other team's coach knows what he's doing. Buck's 2 coaches are lost. The other team took their foot off the gas last night and it came back to bite them. 2 lucky plays by kids just being athletic saved their season.
Do they watch film?

This is exactly why I don’t pull my starters. I have two kids (RBJr. and another) who play iron man all game. I have another kid I play at MLB all game. Some of the parents don’t love it but on the one rare occasion they were both out on D for one play this season - TD by the worst team in the league.

So it is what it is. The goal is to win.
Exactly. If you want to do something just for funsies, go run around at the park or something. You play the game to win the game.

The team they play, their coach comes off as an ass. He cries about ticky tack shit while his team is killing the others.

I didn’t either until very recently. I’ve got a couple of good buddies who are very good golfers. They’ve helped me understand the finer points of the game. It allows me to enjoy watching events beyond major ones like The Masters and US open.

Team we played last week had a HS HC. Decked out in all his HS gear (actually the HS I graduated from). Unbeaten team. Super friendly pre game. It was 12-0 after the first two series and 24-6 after we opened the 3rd w another score. Dude turned into a super asshole after that, complaining all game.

I guess they don’t want to win.
They think they can just run the ball every down. They never really pass it. Then wonder why they always get stopped. Then on defense on short & have to pass plays they decide to man up and get picked, thus giving up first downs.

My dad golfed his whole life. Excellent golfer. I live 2 houses down from a golf course (I can sneak onto the 7th hole no problem). All my neighbros golf. I’m the only one who doesn’t. I guess I just can’t get into waking up at 6am to go golfing. It’s like hunting. I like my weekend sleeping in too much I guess.

I have film from other teams now being sent to me to study for our own team. Shit is getting serious. One of the dads is putting together a travel team where every kid is awesome. The stuff these level of kids can do is impressive. I’m being recruited to be the OC. So lots of film to study putting together a new playbook.

So you have some kids that sit the bench the entire game?

There are rules against that in most organized youth rec sports.

I think I’ve mentioned that my daughter is a high-level gymnast. Her teammates always give her shit because she’s so serious at practice and doesn’t joke around. At the same time, they get jealous that she always scores higher than them. You get out what you put in. Talent only takes you so far. After that, it’s all about work and preparation.

Yep. My kid was on a travel team at 5. Played at the NFL HOF. Met Rod Woodson. Went 5-1 over two days and played in the 6U championship.

Been friends with that HC ever since, who still coaches that travel team. I’ve been coaching the JV (younger) version like a pipeline. We play all over.

Lame right?

But your battery powered lawn mower died. Lol

I bet he watches film.

Probably makes some little tots sit the bench all game just so his kid gets to play more.

Thankfully I'm almost back to full strength as I have to help move a family friend tomorrow morning. Then have to collect youth football equipment in the afternoon/evening for tackle league in Indiana. Wife gets to sit at the volleyball tournament. Think we are going to some festival tonight as Bossy & Dodger have artwork displayed at it.

Yup. Some people think we just take turns throwing and catching bombs and the only reason their kid isn’t doing it is because he didn’t get his turn.

Meanwhile there are 4 routes on every play and a QB who can find the open WR. Just happens that the same kid is always open lol

Don't think he has kids. He may have been booted from Upwards Basketball (where it's really not about basketball) because he couldn't quit being an ass.

yeah… I’m with ya. I played all the major sports as a kid. I tried golf but never really got into it. It’s the kind of sport you have to play constantly to be any good at. I still don’t play but my buddies have taught me about it so I can appreciate it more watching it.

I watch even less tennis (almost none) than golf. I watched a little tennis when Serena and her sister were dominating the sport. They were fun to watch. Recently, the woman’s US open in NY has rekindled my limited interest in the sport. A great story came out of it. If you haven’t heard about it check out Rich Eisens take on it. I’m a lot like Eisen in that tennis doesn’t really excite me but as he said “this story is why we watch sports”…

what a great story. Here’s a short video showing highlights of all her matches to the championship. She was literally playing in front of ZERO fans in those qualifying matches on the way to the biggest stage…

The young lady she best (Leyla Fernandez) had her own dream run. She took out like 3 of the top 10 players on the way to the finals.

Pretty amazing story.
