Monday - New Week - New Hours

@kobesgame
I prefer bow season and muzzle loader over gun season anymore. Seems like everyone and their brother is out during gun season, specifically people who don't really hunt that much.

Less people during the bow season and muzzle loader is late Dec or early Jan

I didn’t really like my dad’s pellet smoker. But I’ll be doing plenty of research on what I buy next.

There are better tools for the job, but none are easier than a pellet smoker controlled by an app on your phone...

If I were to buy again, I'd go one size up.

They like to be in the stand at least 30 minutes prior to sun up. So between getting ready, the drive out, and the hike to the stand, they need a few hours.
If they have a ways to go I can understand that. Fortunately I don't have that issue. I just walk out the door

if you can't kill something with a muzzle loader, you shouldn't be in the woods.

I tried hunting once. Had to get up at 4am to walk through the woods and sit in a tree. Everybody told me to shut up and stop talking. Told me to put out my joint. Then at night all the old dudes got absolutely wasted and said weird shit about women. Was totally lame.

They have some connections to various plots of private property for each season, so they aren’t inundated with too many folks. Right now he does his bow hunting on public land though…and he has commented on how few people are out hunting compared to gun season.

Eh, that is debatable. Some of the inline muzzle loaders are pretty much just like using a modern rifle. I still use black powder

I don't see the downside here?

We have a tree stand in our woods that he can use for bow season, but it’s hit or miss between the dogs and the kids being outside. He prefers driving to the public land for that.

Finally learned how to properly trim pork spare ribs this weekend. Smoked them yesterday and made rib tips with the trimmings. Electric smoker went to shit, so I was forced to smoke them on the grill. Now I’m in the market for a new smoker.

I have been hunting since I was 12. So many fond memories. I was out of school the week of Thanksgiving, got to see my grandparents, ate really good unhealthy fried food 3 times a day. Good times

I dont blame him

I’d love to be a smoking purist, but I also liked the consistency from the electric and being able to just set and not have to monitor.

Stay up. Adjust yer clock and sleep the afternoon away.
I’ve got 3 kids. There ain’t any sleeping the afternoon away happening on the weekends around here.

so you measure your own powder rather than using pyrodex pellets?

biggest difference from a modern rifle is a longer hold on the target. Still pretty fucking accurate... you just only have one shot. Should be all that's needed anyway.

During muzzle loader season they only hunt for big bucks. There are some years they don’t even shoot the gun.
