Best and worst drivers in the country.

It's like 70/30.

70 = under
30 = over
That would drive me crazy.

I try to stay off the road here in the city between 10a.m. and 2p.m. if I can. That tends to be the time when all the old folks are heading out for lunch and or a little shopping and way too many of them are doing 20-25 in a 30 zone or worse.

Last night around dinner time i was headed for the grocery store a couple miles away and I noticed that the 3 or 4 cars ahead of me were crawling. It turned out that there was a little old lady in a tiny old Honda going about 5mph in what is basically the parking lane on the right and she had her left blinker on for for a couple hundred yards at least. I feel bad the she doesn't have a family member that is willing to take her car away from her and step up to the plate to motor her around to her appointments and shopping runs. She definitely shouldn't be driving.

Fatal Car Crashes by Population

In 2018, there were 33,654 motor vehicle crashes in the U.S., causing 36,560 deaths. The fatal car crash death rate was 11.2 deaths per 100,000 people and 1.13 deaths per 100 million miles traveled.

While states with higher populations had more fatal crashes and deaths, they don't necessarily have the highest death rates per 100,000 population or deaths per 100 million vehicle miles traveled. The rate of car accident deaths per 100,000 people ranges from 4.4 to 22.2. The five states with the highest rates are:

The states with the lowest deaths per 100,000 people are generally located in the Northeast. The five states with the lowest death rates are:

My biggest issue with Virginia drivers is that they seem to be oblivious to the fact that there are other people on the road with them. Doing my cannonball run to NC and back always entails getting stuck behind a few (mostly older) folks that are going exactly the speed limit in the left lane and they aren't moving over for nothing! Gotta wait for an opening and pass them on the right while waving to them.
No issues with that back here in FLA. The drivers here aren't bad, just fast. Speed limit is 70, but if you do 70 or even 75, you're a traffic hazard. And except in a few places, I have rarely seen cops with anyone pulled over. And I have literally seen cars go by a Police car doing 80-85 and the cops wave at them, lol

I had that talk with the cabbie who drove me from Key Largo to Miami and I think a lot of that has to be that it is too dangerous to chase a car through traffic that is weaving in and out at 80-85 mph.

Yeah, I've done a couple of road trips to FLA since my son and his wife moved down and I quickly noticed that the pace picks up the further south you go. NC is 5-10 over the limit, SC is a bit faster, Georgia is about the same as SC and you hit Florida on I95s and you're off to the races. I like it.

Just Do Not get a heavy foot in VA.... And that's coming from someone from Ohio.

Especially when you get close (about 100 miles) from the TN border.

You can't! Too many people blocking the passing lane driving like they're in a parade :L

Gotta take it easy in Maryland as well, because there is a lot of Staties cruising on I95.

Just spent a week in MD/VA/DC, 10x better drivers than Minnesota. Not even fucking close.

Best and Worst Drivers by State 2021

“What? No way! Clearly, these people have never driven through the nightmare that is Elm Street.” After six years, we’ve heard it all. No matter where they actually rank on our annual list of Best and Worst Drivers by State, everyone thinks their state has the worst drivers. We analyzed over 2 million insurance quotes to find out which states have the worst drivers in America and which have the best. Drivers were evaluated on four factors to determine overall driving quality.

Those factors include:
  • Accidents
  • Speeding tickets
  • DUIs
  • Citations
Yeah. Fuck them. They have never driven in Houston

right now I.lm going 25 in a 45 because fuck Houston drivers

You should experience drivers in some foreign countries they make the idiots here in the states seem tame. Worst places I ever drove was Egypt and Sudan they were all over the place, as far as Speed Racers go Italy was the king. I was driving from Aviano to Pisa in a 6 pack running about 80 or so when I spied a car in my side mirror. About 15 seconds later it blew by me so fast in the left lane it made the truck rock violently and the only thing I know is that it was dark blue. I'm guessing he was in a Lambo or Maserati and doing close to 200 when he went by me...

Most of the Highway Patrol on I-35 to Dallas are either helping stranded motorists, or looking for illegal shit, just sitting and watching.

I've been going plenty fast a couple of times when, POOF, there they were.
Didn't give me a 2nd look.

They have busted up vans and shit pulled over and searched plenty times I've been by. All their shit pulled out on the ground.

Kinda surprised we had the fewest accidents in Michigan. Since we generally loathe public transportation here, so everybody drives.

But we have finally put stop signs at dirt road intersections, so that prolly helped.

Hard to die in an accident when you're going 15 mph in traffic

I'm surprised that Iowa and North Dakota are ranked first and second worst in the nation, but I can say that after a dozen road trips through Virginia and back their #3 place on the list is well deserved. Holy crap, those fucking people don't know what the hell they're doing.

Virginia is absolutely awful. Traffic jams on highways for no apparent reason whatsoever. Constant speeding up and slowing down over and over.

Jfk GIF

Could you imagine how high some of those southern states would be on the list if they actually had a winter?

People in the Midwest cannot even figure out how to merge onto the highway. It wouldn't be a day ending in Y if I didn't see someone riding onto the fucking shoulder because they couldn't mentally adapt to getting into the fucking merge lane in the half mile before it ends.
