Sources: Southern Mississippi & Marshall to Sun Belt

Combine may have been a bad word. Maybe CUSA absorbs the new WAC into what they have left. Not a lot of great options out there.
again there is a process and criteria. cant just assume all will pass and qualify

FBS schools must have an average home attendance of at least 15,000 (over a rolling two-year period). An FBS school must sponsor a minimum of 16 varsity intercollegiate teams (including football), with at least six men's or coeducational teams and at least eight all-female teams.

Across all sports, each FBS school must offer at least 200 athletic scholarships (or spend at least $4 million on athletic scholarships) per year, and FBS football teams must provide at least 90% of the maximum number of football scholarships (which is currently 85).

RIP C-USA

you were a conference that was never good enough to have "USA" in its name, but for some reason we put up with your mediocrity for years and years
Dat logo, dough

If the cusa wants them, and those schools want to go, they will end up there.

Tarleton 14 sports not the 16 required. moving to 15 in 22. still short. stadium capacity is 10000 how can they average 15000?
Dixie State 15 not 16 again 10000 capacity stadium
abilene Christian 12000 seats
Lamar has the seats but average attendance is closer to 7000
i could keep going for each school but i think you get it

You can keep going. It won't matter. If CUSA wants any of those schools, and those schools want to go to the CUSA, they'll be in. My guess is CUSA would look at Stephen F Austin and Sam Houston State from the WAC. Then maybe NMSU. Idk. They are probably fucked no matter what. But at least the WAC offers 6 teams.

Thought they were already in the Sunbelt.

OK, it’s a lie. I really had no idea what conference they were in.

ok once again because you are having trouble following
they cant get in if they dont qualify. it doesnt matter who wants them. they dont meet the requirements. this isnt burger king and have it your way. Conference USA doesn't have the clout to just say this is who we want its gonna happen we dont care if they aren't up to standard.

Now I’m hearing the Sun Belt might add ODU and JMU as well.

Yup... here is a linky to a report that the Sun Belt could add 4 schools (Southern Mississippi, Marshall, Old Dominion from C-USA, and James Madison from the FCS) which increases Sun Belt membership to 14.

Report: Sun Belt Conference considering expansion by up to four schools

It appears that the carving up of C-USA is being driven by ESPN, which apparently owns the TV rights to ALL games of the American, Sun Belt, and MAC... but supposedly not all games of C-USA.

So...
If Southern Miss, Marshall, and Old Dominion depart for the Sun Belt, that leaves only 5 C-USA schools remaining... and then I wouldn't be surprised if ESPN entices the MAC to poach both Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky from C-USA, which will then effectively kill C-USA because they would only have 3 remaining members (UTEP, Louisiana Tech, FIU).....

And at that point I could possibly even see the MWC grabbing both UTEP and Louisiana Tech. That leaves FIU alone on the outside as the American, MAC, Sun Belt, and MWC would all stand at 14 members each. FIU would probably have to go independent.

.

both SFA and SMS have smaller stadiums to be able to average the needed number.

After all this conference realignment, the NCAA is gonna stop CUSA from expanding 😂

In all seriousness, those rules are barriers to entry to so any FCS team couldn’t just make the jump. However, if a conference really wants to add someone, I’d be shocked if the NCAA prevented them from doing it

for the record JMU does, as far as I can find, meet most of the requirements if not all. im not privy to budget stuffs

Again, the MWC hasn't wanted us since formation of the conference. I don't see them wanting us now.

We've always been a better fit with those schools than any others. El Paso is even in the MOUNTAIN time zone! Has been since forever. There are signs in the jetways at El Paso International Airport that are right in front of you when you exit the plane and say "El Paso is in the Mountain Time Zone". Most other Texans don't even know that.

Agree, the NCAA can't enforce shit anymore. They've been neutered.

I wouldn't be against the Sun Belt making a play for Liberty too if I didn't fear that school having an SMU-style meltdown in the near future.
