What would a 12 Team Playoff Look like ATM

Where we are right now and where we are going to be at the end of the year are two different stories.

I could see a situation where you have Georgia, Alabama, Ole Miss and Kentucky all with one loss and Oregon sitting there with two losses and an automatic bid playing a much weaker schedule. That's bullshit and welfare.

In the B1G you could have two one-loss teams as well.

Once Texas and Oklahoma leave the Big 12 are we going to give that conference one of six automatic bids?
Where does the sixth automatic bid go anyway? The Sunbelt?

It does not work.

You keep complaining about auto bids but there’s gonna be 6 auto bids regardless of whether we go to 8 or 12. 8 team playoff avoids giving 2-3 loss non-champs another shot.

That said, it doesn’t really matter because we are going to a 12 team play playoff

You just say the highest ranked conference champs. If the ACC champ doesn’t beat out the ranking of 6 other conferences, they get left out.

Exactly. It’s the 6 highest ranked conference champions. No conference is getting an auto bid. So if there’s a conference champion that is unranked or ranked really low, they won’t make it

No, leave 4 at large bids and a standard for the P4 champs that if not met they lose their bid.

Let's reward accomplishment and not create safety nets.

And by accomplishment you mean rewarding teams that couldn’t win their conference. The cats already out of the bag, there’s no point of debating it now. We are going to a 12 team playoff with 6 bids for conference champs and 6 at large bids.

I’m ok with that. It’s better than the current format

You are creating a bigger safety net by giving specific conferences auto bids. Teams don’t have to schedule as tough because they have double the chance to skate into the playoffs because even if you lose your conference who cares, it’s much easier to make the playoffs.

with only two at large bids, your strength of schedule will be much more scrutinized.

6 auto bids are way too much and schedules are nowhere near equal (see Cincinnati) so I stand by what I wrote and one of the 4 auto-bids could be dropped if a conference champ underperforms.

But you want to give the ACC, B1G, PAC, and SEC auto bids so if they underperform, congratulations they still make the playoffs.

No

Minimum standard that has to be met in order to keep an auto bid.

Look let's just make it 8 at large and be done.
No auto bids that is as fair as it gets.

Every bid being subjective is as “fair” as it gets. 😂

If anything this year pretty much solidifies the case of an expanded playoff. So many upsets and lots of teams deserving of a shot even if there's only one team that has a clear shot of winning it all.

After the First CFP Rankings:

1) Georgia
2) Michigan State
3) Oregon
4) Cincinnati

5) Alabama vs. 12) Baylor

8) Oklahoma vs. 9) Wake Forest

6) Ohio State vs. 11) Oklahoma State

7) Michigan vs. 10) Notre Dame

As an ND fan that would be pretty sweet to play Michigan with a chance to play MSU after.

Again, who the fuck wouldn't want all of this? Home games in Tuscaloosa, Norman, Columbus and the North Pole. C'mon, how cool would this be.

Let's say that each conference had to have an inside venue for their conference ... you know, the whole winterize thing. Games in Athens and Norman (us SEC folks have good weather), Indy, and Detroit. I could go for that too, although I like the home team games.

No doubt a 12 team playoff will kill in the ratings. And having teams from all over the country is good for the sport in the long term IMO.

Home games should happen in the first two rounds (at least). College football is at its best when it’s played on campus

Just the first round. The next 4 games will be 4 of the NY6 bowls, with the semis in the other 2. Then the NCG bid out. Have to get inside by January, and get to a neutral field, IMO!

Ratings will be out of this world.

For the life of me, I can't understand the objections to 12. Not only do you get these great games, but you also will get a much better OOC schedule in the first 3 weeks of the season. It's gotten pretty good lately, but it will get even better when SOS matters, and you don't have to be perfect.

I like the 8 teams ... 12 is too many ... Here is my opinion as we look today.

Current 4 Team Playoffs (in my humble opinion)

1. Georgia
2. Oklahoma
3. Wake Forest
4. Oregon

Sorry, I prefer undefeated P5 teams who are Conference Champions for a 4 team playoff ... 8 opens up possibilities.

5. ohio state
6. Alabama
7. Michigan State
8. Cincinnati

12 Teams may be too many (Byes for the top 4)

9. UTSA
10. Notre Dame
11. Oklahoma State
12. Michigan

Here's what an 8 team playoff with 6 autobids would look like:

1) Georgia vs. 8) Wake Forest

4) Oregon vs. 5) Ohio State

3) Michigan State vs. 6) Cincinnati

2) Alabama vs. 7) Oklahoma
