Gary Patterson fired by TCU

The article didn't say what his salary was going to be. Only mentioned the buyout nd the length of the contract.

We'd assume he is getting a huge bump. But, G5s can't compete salary wise with P5s...unless they have a crazy BMD that's willing to do it ala Houston.
Want to say his pay was 28 million over the 10 years

One of the more surprising announcements of the weekend. When i saw he was fired, I was worried some scandal was about to bubble up to the public. Glad that's not the case.

Coach P was an institution. HoF coach.

So he will make 2.8 million with the new contract.

Who the hell does TCU go and get ???
Ohio State Football GIF

I don't keep up with these things but that sounds like a pretty good salary for a G5. UTSA hasn't been around that long so their number of alumni can't be numerous. But they may have some BMDs that aren't alumni.

yeah, I think he's going to wait til a bigger (than Tech/TCU) job opens up that wants him.
There are only two in Texas that meet that criteria....if he wants to stay with his roots. If not, LSU and USC are open right now. But they probably aren't interested in a G5 coach with mainly HS experience.

Truth is TT and TCU are no longer P5 jobs. They are now stepping stones and I don’t think either has any business entering into a long term contract more than 3mm. It just wouldn’t be smart.

That hasn't mattered for a whole bunch of schools lately.

But, all the expenses for the Orphan 8 will have to be reduced significantly when the new media deal kicks in. Unless they have enough BMDs to make up for the difference. Or come up with replacement revenue from somewhere.

He's building something nice right now in San Antonio.. who knows what happens in another 2 years in Austin or BC/S.. hell maybe even Arkansas or LSU. Things change fast

P5 jobs come open all the time. Duke will be open pretty soon.

Why would you mention Duke when discussing P5 jobs???
Duke isn’t a bad gig. No expectations, great area to live in and they will have to pay 3mm plus next go around.

Cutcliffe has been there 13 years. All it takes in the ACC is a special QB and you can make a run.

yeah doubt a guy like Traylor would go there to convince Texas kids that Duke is the place to be.. only a short flight away where there is always a 3 hour delay in Charlotte

Before schools fire coaches I wish they'd ask one question: Can we trade up?

If not, be patient, especially if your HC is a goddamn legend at ur school.

LSU did this with Les Miles and it got them to being -24.5 underdogs against their biggest rival this weekend. (Been waiting to work that in somewhere. 😁)

Patterson is done. Truth is after 10 years things get kinda stale most of the time and you need to shake things up. Patterson has been there 20 years so it’s time to say thanks and get new blood.

I don’t really have an issue with any of the coaches that have been let go in the SEC except maybe Fulmer at Tennessee. They just absolutely have never been the same.

idiots had the guy then let a twitter troll convince them otherwise as Fulmer was eyeing the gig for himself..
