So what's that say about Acuña?
You were a much better team after he went down
Not really, between Acuna going down and the trade deadline, the team was treading water. Still under .500 and 4.5 games back at the trade deadline. I even said that I would be fine with selling at the deadline because "this isn't a WS team and nobody we add will make us one this year", glad I was wrong.
Rosario, Soler, Duvall and Pederson made the lineup as a whole deeper. Before Acuna went down, Guillermo Heredia and Orlando Arcia/Abraham Almonte were everyday players. Basically there were 3 glaring holes in the lineup when Acuna was there since he was the only OF and D'Arnaud was out. D'Arnaud came back, and we went from having 0 real outfielders between Acuna going down and the trade deadline to having 4 outfielders.
The team was treading water until the deadline, and it was arguably the best trade deadline for a team in MLB history. Also, the pitching was significantly better in the second half of the season than the first half.
Not one player was near as good as Acuna, but the lineup as a whole got deeper after the deadline. It's very possible that none of Duvall, Soler, Rosario or Pederson will be Braves next season, but they will always be heroes in Braves country
The lineup on July 4 was:
1. Acuna
2. Freeman
3. Albies
4. Riley
5. Swanson
6. Heredia
7. Arcia
8. Contreras
The general lineup post deadline was:
1. Soler
2. Freeman
3. Albies
4. Riley
5. Duvall
6. Pederson/Rosario
7. Swanson
8. D'Arnaud
