LOGIC: when to call time out?

I’ve seen field goals take 3 Seconds. A miss guided kickoff lands out of bounds with no time going off the clock. Opponent gets 10 yards in 3 seconds, uses their last timeout and kicks a 67 yarder to tie ya.

Why the fuck would you ever put yourself in that position? You take it down to 3 ticks, the likelihood of a block return isn’t great nor should you play like a botched snap would happen.

But you go ahead and kick it with 7 seconds champ….
Your story isn’t too compelling.
field goal taking three instead of four.
a kickoff that takes no time off clock ???.
A risky quick pass that only takes three secs to leave some time left.
And then Justin Tucker’s twin comes along to kick a 67 yarder.
mmmhmmm.
Im still hedging against a messed up snap.

Nor is Your but a botched snap!!!

But you do you.

There really isn’t a definitive correct answer as situations arise within this situation. Because I know you won’t understand, if there is indeed a botched snap your answer would be correct. If there isn’t a botched snap (like in the Viking game) then my answer would be correct.

Thanks

I don't call one. If I can't score a touchdown then I don't deserve it

Is that you Tom Osborne ???

Tied game.
You have multiple time outs.
You have the ball on your opponent’s 5.
3rd and goal.
Clock ticking down from 20 seconds.

When do you call your last time out to set up the go-ahead fg?
If there is 20 seconds and its only 3rd and goal, why am I not trying to punch it in given that I have multiple timeouts?

Yeah. I’m hedging against a botched snap.
7 seconds.

That's my thought and you pooch the kickoff. That being said botched snaps are about as common as weird last second returns so either way you are fine.

The only caviet is where the ball is. If it's a weird angle I'm running a play on 3rd down to make it an easy kick for the kicked and calling the timeout with 2-3 seconds. Botched snap doesn't matter on 4th down and there is no chance for a return if you make the fg before time expires.

Fumble or int maybe. Getting in and leaving 20
Seconds on the clock.

I'm a nebraska fan, I'm gonna trust to get in on the 5 before I am trusting the kicker.

But assuming I don't get in. I am calling time out at about 3 seconds. And praying my kicker can make an extra point.

Tom Osborne once said... If you can't make a 4th and 2 you have no business winning the game anyway.

i think.. pretty sure he said it.
