Amateur Hour Wednesday

They all do that. I took my car in for scheduled maintenance and they tried to get me to buy new tires. Thing is they give you a little report card with everything they checked and the tires showed fine. So I asked the guy why he was recommending new tires when their inspection said they were good. He dropped it.

One of my first service calls years ago they were telling me “you need an alignment”. I said the car has 8K miles. He said “well… it’s recommended.” I said no thanks and now each time I come in they keep asking if I want an alignment.

I've had them pull this on my diesel trucks, 2015 duramax and 2018 ram dually. go in for an oil change and get a sheet showing scheduled maintenance. Cabin air filters and shit. Usually adding up to 2 grand.
GTFO and just change my oil dammit.

Got to make the call today to tell my team to clock out and go home early for the holiday weekend.

one of my cars I brought in, they recommended about 5k in repairs/maintenance

Umm, my car is only worth about 4,500 so if it needs this stuff, it's total IMO

Oh, these aren't needed, they're just recommended

Next oil change was at a service station I trusted, I show him sheet of all things "wrong" with my car. Tech said they'd inspect the issues, and yeah, they pretty much agreed with one item that one of the belts was a little worn, but they said they wouldn't replace it and probably had 20k miles left and once it starts squeaking, bring it back and they'll replace (for about 1/2 price other place listed) but if i really wanted them too, they'd do it now.

never did replace the belt

Finally finished the obit. Man, that's a less than desirable task. Now onto a photo dump for the visitation.

It's always hard to lose family, especially near holidays. I lost my grandma in 2017 right before Thanksgiving. My condolences as this weekend will be a tough one for all of his family & friends.

I, too, lost a brother Thanksgiving week. 19 years ago. We shared a birthday. The birthday celebrations aren't the same anymore.
