Discussion: B12 CCG

Yep. Honestly no one expected Texas to be there. They have a culture problem and it will take a special coach to correct that. Mack did for a while but they have unrealistic expectations and a decade in the wilderness after he left hasn't changed that. That team completely quit on Sark and next year the same thing will happen. Maybe their next coach changes things but I have my doubts. Oklahoma was surprising but honestly it wasn't like they were that far off. They weren't dominant early and made a qb change midway through the season but they were in the playoff conversion a week ago. They dunk on us twice and things fall right and they are in. But that didn't happen and everything after that has been glorious.

The crazy thing is both are stuck here another year before the buyout gets affordable and both schools are completely screwed. Texas will be Texas next year and lucky to make a bowl. Oklahoma is going to hire a coach in over his head and suddenly we, who will return alot aren't scared of them. Plus Baylor and Iowa State aren't scared of them. The Big 12 is about to kick their teeth in before they bolt for greener pastures.
Do you think both schools will be able to keep their current coaches?

Slightly soft generation of players, and if it’s obvious to us fans, it’s obvious to the players… the coach fails to keep on playing a winning formula in the second half of games that had Texas beating the top three b12 schools at halftime. Handily.
Good news? Players want to play and compete. Next year will be a new year. And 5-7 looks bad, but we did have those leads on all those teams. It’s not THAT dire.
Not calling the Longhorns out by any means. They have won plenty. Conference championships, Heismans, national championships, etc. Just the fact that I thought since I started watching college football in 1999, I would have never imagined this.

This year, yeah. I'm jizzed over what happened at USC but Aranda grew up in their back yard so it's surprising that they didn't grab him. I honestly think Campbell is going to be Iowa States version of Bill Snyder. He is a God there already and has money and his kids are settled in. I look at it this way. I love my job and get paid well enough to send the kids to private school. In my profession I'm the guy-I could chase bigger opportunities but then I have to uproot the family and although the money is better I can keep doing my thing and retire happy. Campbell is the same way only in his case it's generational money and he gets a statue when he retires. That dude may bolt to Ohio State if he gets offered stupid money but he has it made right now.

How many did they win when they were in the Big 12?
I know, but the statement before my response was the SEC was easier than the BIG XII. Then pointed to A&M and Mizzou, and if the SEC is easier... Well you know...

35-10 Pokes and it isn't that close.

The ONE big problem is that the team constantly has to overcome the softness. Austin is soft. The fans are soft. Austin is literally the best place to live in the world. (Check #1 global destination city for moving to). There’s so much cool stuff to do in what was already a hippy dippy culture in Austin, that the actual wins and losses aren’t taken as hard. And yes, that citywide culture permeates everywhere including the team.
You need to have some absolute killers on their own (VY, Applewhite, Bryant Westbrook, Derrick Johnson, etc) to overcome that and lead their corps and their sides of the ball. The fans don’t help make that a default. You need leaders to overcome the softness.
i can’t tell you how many times I have to shame my section in the stadium to get off their asses and scream in third downs, etc

Eg, Ehlinger was a complete fucking dunce who couldn’t throw the ball, and the prevailing sentiment of all the fans was to leave him alone; that he tries hard.

I like turtles

Frankly the Big 12-2 (aka Little Ten) is toast. Their eight remaining core teams need to look towards their futures. They need to create a new conference, ditch the "Big" name, and vie to be considered a power conference. The Baptists from Waco are second fiddle to Joanna Gaines. They could fall into G5dom and the CFP universe would footnote it. In truth, even Baylor needs Okie State to win this one AND their bowl game.

Hey! Sooners and Steers can take their talk to another thread. This discussion is about the 2021 CCG, and neither of the future SECers are in it.
