It is seriously bad but the athletic department hasn't been affected. Almost every school has waaaaay too much debt. OU is in hock up to its neck. Jr. is even worse off comparatively speaking. The rest of the Disfuctional XII is mostly on the brink of financial ruin. I've been saying for two years that when the next recession hits (in spite of what Joe and the Ho claim is a metaphysical impossibility) the $hit is going to hit the fan. It's going to be a blood bath in higher education. And THEN we'll see just how strong all the financial foundations are for these big spenders. Ask yourself this question: what is the REAL reason Oklahoma is leaving a cushy conference and heading to a meat grinder? Why are the alums/donors getting frequent emails and phone calls about how the University has been tightening its purse strings like a mofo, laying people off, cutting construction to the bone, etc. Think about why OU's leadership is doing all these things and it gets pretty sobering.

The university's financial situation is bad.
The athletic department and Tiger Athletic Foundation is flush with cash and printing more every day.
2 very different things.
That makes sense.
I think I read a few years ago that about 30+ athletic departments operated in the black and annually dump money back into the general university coffers instead of the other way around. The rest were having to subsidize the athletic departments....some to quite a leve. (IIRC, Maryland was one of the letter which was why the B1G was so appealing to them.) LSU may have been one of those 30+ because I think something like 10 of those 30+ were SEC schools.
But, my forgetterer is better than my rememberer these days. So all that may just be a bunch of jumbled data scattered around in my hard drive.

That staff didn't have the stomach for competing in the SEC. The team stumbled through the season and nothing seemed to be working. But they were still winning (barely). The Kansas game had to scare the ever loving shit out of them. They sucked! And Riley's magic touch had suddenly gone cold with Caleb Williams who was trying to survive a horrible offensive line coached by Fat Boy Bedenbaugh who was looking about as clueless as Alex Grinch. It was a clusterf**k. And then lightening struck when USC became their escape.......which they quickly grabbed on to and glued together in a matter of hours. I believe the USC thing came out of nowhere. What isn't believable is Lincoln Riley wasn't searching for the Exit sign at least a month earlier and it showed in the way he was struggling. He even missed practices due to "personal issues". This guy is just like someone who dumps the wife who put him through medical school for the scrub nurse with a nice set of tits. It might all work out for him but don't bet on it.
