I don't know or care if our HOA has rules regarding holiday decorations or not, and the HOA president knows it so I won't hear anything regardless.

Our HOA is pretty chill. I hear a lot of HOA horror stories, but aside from one violation I got for leaving my trash cans out where they could be seen from the street, I have had no real interactions with them.

I lucked out in that my HOA is pretty much MIA. They have landscaping coming through once a week and that's pretty much it.

People are making all sorts of modifications and I know they aren't asking the HOA for permission.

Say, WWJ, can't we as the members of the HOA vote to dissolve the fucking thing?

Yeah, that's pretty much ours as well. I've gotten a few letters, but it's for stuff that needed to be done, so it didn't piss me off.

When they send out new rules that I don't like, I just ignore them. Never heard anything about it.

They could fuck you pretty hard for ignoring the rules. You need to read the Covenants Conditions and Restrictions (CCRs) carefully. They are limits on your title.
