Have to cancel our Christmas Eve party.

almost a month old...nice

I'll take a bowl, just pick all the okra out of it first, if'n ya dont mind.
I made gumbo for Christmas Eve and I bought the last pack of frozen cut okra to put in it. I wish I could have found two because I would have doubled the amount in a heartbeat.

I put okra in shrimp and taso gumbo. I leave it out of my chicken and sausage gumbo. Don't really know why except that's how Mee-Maw used to make it.

It is from December 8 and still relevant. Of course a mental midget like you thinks his opinion has changed in just a few weeks.
so should we have taken precautions over Omicron? I mean, I did because I had people I wanted to protect, regardless of the severity.

and I think the country prepped for it as they should have.

but holiday plans were changed by many people because of it....which I think was smart in a lot of cases even if it isn't a super severe variant of COVID

it didn't help that those in charge to managing the whole thing were at odds the entire time, creating a sort of division in the populace
This might be a good thread topic. BTW, I think them being at odds was not causing division, it was more the lengths each was willing to go to defeat the other perspectives that caused it.

People get sick from the Flu every year but folks continue to live their lives regardless.

they go hand in hand, IMO...and still do as you can tell from Gigi's posts putting down the Omicron variant as overreacting.

I had the same discussion with that one chick mod over at the other site...but really I would rather we be cautious.

And, EVENTUALLY, the same will happen with COVID. We are still in the hysteria stage.
I think the "hysteria" is still warranted though...but I wouldn't call it hysteria...just caution.

IMHO you handled things correctly for your family. Your precautions were reasonable and focused on preventing spread which vaccination status has no effect on with this variant. Kudos.

The gumbo I make is really a chicken and sausage gumbo. I make it, then let it sit for a day in the fridge to season then bring to a boil and add shrimp and crab at that point. You don’t get the full seafood flavor that way but shrimp is always right on point and the crab disappears if it goes in to early to me. Everyone likes it but it’s a bastardized approached. Still doing everything is a good 3 to 4 hour process with the prep and making the rue.

thank you...it was more my sister and her husband than anyone else, but it really was the right thing to do.

you can't approach COVID with just yourself in mind...it requires you to think of others as well...and I think that is a big issue with some in this country.

Hell, I treat the flu with caution. Social distancing is not a new thing. We are well past the endless quest for any scrap of info to support our views. Reason and logic are starting to creep into the public arena.

how much caution, though? And how much do you trust the people you are around not to be polluting an entire crowd with COVID?

I think reason and logic are needed, but there are some who are just throwing it right out the window....and that goes for both directions.

too cautious and not cautious enough

IMHO the messaging was horrible and based on old school crisis management methods that are not viable in the information age.
Exactly. The only thing I’m still debating is whether they should have had better solutions for what social media was becoming….or if there are even solutions.

I mean, that can be said outside of COVID as well

controlling that is basically impossible.
