Texas A&M boosters paid $30 million for the top-overall 2022 class

I weeped when Mike Puskar died.

Oh no! Now all the big schools with big pockets will get all the best players. CFB is ruined.

I miss the good old days when...*checks notes* all the big schools with big pockets got all the best players but didn't have to file LLC paperwork.

Boosters have always paid some players under the table. The amounts were small and if the $ involved got over the car level it was rare. That's why the Cam Newton and Reggie Bush stories were so big. Repeat, boosters have always done things on the down-low. But NEVER has it approached the levels it's at now. Never. Otherwise why fight for the NIL rules and then the inevitable payment schemes that were bound to be unleashed after NIL was approved? A bunch of $100 handshakes or even more were a pittance to what has now been unleashed in the sport. Anyone arguing that this is just "business as usual" is a moron.....or willfully blind to the fallout that will happen if this situation is allowed to continue for very long without some new rules to moderate booster behavior. College football will either make the changes itself or the politicians and judges will get involved with their usual heavy handed, sloppy way of doing things "for the common good".

I've been expecting something like this ever since the media rights revenues started skyrocketing.

I was referring to Tannehill. Not sure if that was under Sherman or Sumlin. Switched him to a WR and he's a playoff quality QB in the NFL. smh
Not sure, might have had 1 year under Sumlin. I knew what you meant, I was just pointing out Jimbo’s record on WR development

He didn't. He was recruited under Fran and played under Sherman, converted to QB under Sherman. Swagcopter came in as Tannehill was running around in Indy in his underwear.

The wealthier fan bases are laughing and cheering how this trend will be in their favor. They don't understand (or WANT to understand) that turning CFB into a Wild West Show is inevitably going to lead to Federal involvement in the sport. It's also going to lead to internecine warfare between the Haves and the Have Nots which will end up in the Federal and State court systems. NIL is fine in theory but the horse never runs away just 10' from an open door.

Let’s just let Biden decide the CFB playoffs now. Get it over with.

It's still largely the same. Nothing changes but the price. The big boosters were doling out cars or under the table "small" payments or off the books jobs for family or whatever else you can think of to hide it. The market changed so the price goes up. The faces sitting at the table haven't changed. And now the lights are turned on and you can see it. There's nothing to hide. Everyone sees what the ante is so they raise to compete. But the net result is still the same. Big programs with big pockets still get big players.

What's far more likely to happen, and you're starting to see it now based on some of the groups complaining, is those big boy programs will claim they need rules settle things down and "protect the integrity" of the game. But what they really want to do is protect their positions to prevent schools with big pockets that haven't traditionally been involved in football dealings from getting more involved. Think schools with rich alumni bases like Stanford or Cal. Or if Jordan just outright decides to pay everyone at UNC. But that's if those groups ever decide to care about football. Maybe they will, but I'd bet no. So what you're gonna have is what we've always had. Bama, UGA, the Texas schools, OU, OSU, etc, all the big name programs still pulling in all the big time recruits. The VTs, Iowas, etc of the world will be left picking up the leftovers, a 5 star here or there. A handful of 4 stars. Which...omg, exactly the way its been.

If that's the price of competing, time for everyone else to step up.

haha, until those two they picked up transfer out because they aren't getting exposure. But Deion will be gone from there, someone will hire him solely as a recruiting specialist.

It will be interesting to see what happens. With them landing the #1 recruit and then getting the kid that committed Saturday, expect they will get some games televised that they otherwise wouldnt. The first couple of games will draw numbers. Not sure how much folks will continue to watch once the novelty wears off.

still a 9-3 team each year

this isn't coming down to the schools, it's all about the fanbase. Whether it's from Alumni/Boosters or even just the average fan of the school, this is where the money is coming from. I'm not mad at aggy for this at all, it's been happening for a long time. They will begin to start copying what UT has done on the up and up. Their #1 message board site TexAgs just announced Stacked or something, and it's copying what surly did with BurntEnds. Only thing different is that they (TexAgs) are taking a 25% cut, and you have to be a member on their board to donate.. where Surly doesn't take a cut, and you don't have to be a member (which is free anyways).
