Tuesday Morning Bulldog thread

If youre not baking a cake, and he cant blow out the candles, then it no longer is a birthday. #was

Just trying to clear it up, cuz you seemed confused.

the tense isn't so simple with dates. every birthday, alive or dead celebrates a date in the past. So maybe they should all be past tense.

no one is born again every birthday, so yes, they are all was I guess. The parties are held in the present, for the living though, so in that sense, it is a birthday though. This might need to be moved to the philosophy forum.

it is the day he was born on.

If your dad's birthday is a bank holiday then I'd allow the celebration

June is such an overloaded month for me with the anniversary of his death, my birthday, Father's Day....I should just take the whole month off

Why Day of The Dead is a holiday that has grown on me. You can celebrate all those you've lost in those 2 days.
Jews light Yahrzeit candles or "memorial candles" for loved ones who have passed away. The candles traditionally burn for about 24 hours and are lit on Yom Kippur, or on the anniversary of the loved one's death.

There's some similarities there with Dia De Los Muertos.

I've adopted that tradition and I keep a number of memorial candles on hand and whenever I think of someone that's no longer around, I light one as a way to stay connected to that person. I don't let them burn out the way it's traditionally done, I just burn them as long as I feel like it.

IMO, it's a beautiful and powerful custom.

My birthday is in June as well and I hate how close it is to Father's Day. Wish "my days" could be spread out a bit more. C'est la vie.
