Tuesday Morning Bulldog thread

Jews light Yahrzeit candles or "memorial candles" for loved ones who have passed away. The candles traditionally burn for about 24 hours and are lit for Yom Kippur, or on the anniversary of the loved one's death.

There's some similarities there with Dia De Los Muertos.

I've adopted that tradition and I keep a number of memorial candles on hand and whenever I think of someone that's no longer around, I light one as a way to stay connected. I don't let them burn out the way it's traditionally done, I just burn them as long as I feel like it.

IMO, it's a beautiful and powerful custom.
Want to have a Day of the Dead celebration with family & friends. Think it could bring people together and end some of the stupid fights about shit.

I could see it, but I'm envisioning an ofrenda with deceased loved ones pictures and telling stories of them. Sure tears will flow as well as laughs. Have some good food & drinks to go along with it. Possibly a bonfire outside weather depending.

You a jew? I bet you got the fro too.

Half. By marriage. Straight hair.
I actually like a bunch of Jewish beliefs. Not a religious guy, but I do like that they don't have a word for sin, so much as miss the mark. Like we all fuck up, try to hit the mark next time. As opposed to you're an evil sinner and repent!

Yeah, there's a bunch of good stuff. I don't subscribe to a specific religion, but I do draw a lot from different religions and kind of mash them up to get to something I feel.

I really like the Jewish focus on freewill, in that we as humans have the freewill to decide how we are going to act and react to different situations and that it was makes us great.

The idea of "thou mayest," as opposed to "thou shalt."

Just watched a movie with Helen Hunt. Jesus she got old.
