CFP Expansion: Warren Wants P5 Champ Auto Qualifier

I don't either. They needed that economic advantage over their brethren to compete for all those Big 12 Ti...... Oh wait....

who says you need money to be effective? I mean if anyone should know it's NU too right? The reason why y'all left was for stability right? Not money... Glad y'all been killing it too :)

:dingdingding:
It was inappropriately named from the get go. It shouldn't have been named the College Football Playoff. It should have been named Southeastern Conference Invitational.
 Its a household name.....

Yep.

The Big 10 didn't start making the big bucks until the last media rights contract in 2017.

Nebraska has certainly underachieved, but as I said.... Nobody underachieves like tejas. NOBODY!!

BTW.... With Big 12 payouts added to ESPN's payments for the LHN, tejas makes more revenue than any Big 10 team, and the Big 10 pays out more than any other conference at $54 million.

lol saban didn't need NIL, he had his bag network, but now that NIL is here and there's ways to use it to make the bagment network legal..of course he gets his feathers ruffled..

I'm pretty sure Saban is going to adapt and overcome. I'm not convinced the same is true of the 4th best team in Texas.

The better answer….super conferences. Not just one

it's just the brand man.. it's the flagship in a wealthy state..

College Football Playoff expansion is dead, for now.

ACC commissioner Jim Phillips told reporters Friday the conference opposes moving from a four-team model to eight or 12 teams, with coaches being “unanimous” that the sport should hold off.

Always knew I like this guy
Yeah, I mean let's just miss out on over a half a billion dollars a lot of these programs can use. All so we can figure out NIL and the transfer rule, when you and I both know they will do zero about NIL and the transfer rule. Fucker can't chew gum and walk at the same time.

Also, total bullshit when he says all the coaches and players are on board with no more games. I am sure all the ACC teams and coaches love being Clemson's bitches and not having a shot. If the Pitt coach really said his team didn't want the opportunity to play 3 more games and win a natty he should be fired for cause.

I'm going to laugh my ass off when FSU, Miami, Clemson and one other team (NCSU) join the SEC and tell those ACC pussies they can keep their sorry ass TV contract. Because it requires anonymity, the ACC can do this. Come 2025 when they are negotiating the SEC will tell the ACC to fuck off and they won't have a voice at the table.

Finally, you better hope Dabo adjusts to the new landscape, and that's not a sure thing. If he doesn't, you will be wanting a 12 team CFP more than anyone else once you miss the CFP for a couple years.

I am. CFP expansion would be good for CFB. I say this in that if it does what I think it will do it's against my best interests. 4 more years of the PAC not getting into the CFP, or the ACC, perhaps the B12 is not good for CFB. It won't drive equity into recruiting, at some level. So, yeah, I'm a bit mad.

“Our team isn’t for it. They don’t want to play more games. And to be honest with you, I don’t know if there’s 12 teams good enough,” Swinney said in July, 2020, per ESPN. “So you’re going to play more games just to play more games. And I think the more you expand it, the less important the season becomes.”
A lot of holes here Dabo.
1. There is 25-30% of the season that isn't important right now. Maybe more. It is in the form of real shitty OOC schedules...and teams just playing out their schedule to finish it...aka playing more games just to play more games. Hell, those teams could stop sooner.
2. If more = less important, then less = more important. Let's go back to the pre BCS days where it was the most important.
3. My West Texas 'rithmetic ain't too swift, but I can count. And I do know that in a single elimination bracket the number of teams playing an additional game gets cut in 1/2 every week. Approximately 40 bowl games host 80 teams in this all holy bowl system we have. So, 80 teams play 13 games. 20 of those play a CCG so those 20 play 14 games. Sooooooo, less than 10% of the teams will play more than they are right now. And, if they feel like that is too many, their team can decline the invitation to the playoff.

Bunch of fools.
Expansion to 6, 8 or 12 is better than 4 - regardless of the minor details.
Get 'er done!

100% agree. P5 champs should all get in. EA sports had this all figured out in the 90’s.

There are lots of reasons why people want expanded playoffs, but saying the money would help programs? It would take more money away from the smaller programs that REALLY need it to survive. So that's kind of a bogus argument. The programs that would get extra money are already the ones with higher cash. The little guy isn't getting anything from it.

More playoffs = less other bowl games and less interest in any that remain. All anyone is going to care about is the massive new playoff. That new money is going to come from somewhere and it is the smaller bowls and payouts to the conferences for distribute that suffer.

This is part of why we ended up at 4 as it is. The G5's get a chunk of money from it and get extra for every one of their teams in a bowl. They get it as a collective and redistribute it to all of their members, even the ones that don't make a bowl.

If you are going to expand the playoffs you are also going to have to vastly reconfigure the revenue sharing so the little guy doesn't get screwed to the point where they have to shut down their programs. Many are barely hanging on as it is.

Im okay w this. College football should revolve around the P5, the top 25 and the top and most popular programs in the nation. The P5 carries the load for everybody else. They’re the reason all the other schools and their bowl games even exist.
