That's great and all, but your WR injuries were mostly pre-season, not in the last two games of the season. The players that caught 59% of Bryce Young's yards didn't play in the game. You can say the pressure got to him if you want, but watch the game again and count the number of dropped balls. Sure, it's on us that we didn't have some of the young guys ready to go, but pretending it wasn't a factor is just bullshit. If we'd quit sending two WR's to the 1st round as underclassmen every year it would be easier to build depth.
You have the RB edge? You lose Cook & White, we lose Robinson...MacClellan, Gibbs, Trey Sanders, Roydell Williams, and Camar Wheaton are all better and higher rated recruits than Milton and McIntosh and our incoming class includes the #1 RB in the country. GTFO with your nonsense that you have the edge. We literally don't have enough balls for all the quality backs we have, I can't imagine that two of these guys don't transfer out...we will have 3 5-stars that won't likely be in the two-deep....and even if we lose 2, we will still be deeper at RB than Georgia.
Vandagriff is not beating out Stetson...give your head a shake. Kirby rolled with Stetson when Daniels was clearly the better passer, I don't see how a Freshman is going to beat him out.
We return 11 of 15 players who played 1/3 or more of our defensive snaps. One of the 4 leaving was an injury replacement, where the better player is still starting and the other is getting replaced by an All-American 5-star from LSU. Our defense will be better than yours, book it.
Enjoy your win while you can...we aren't ready to pass the torch of SEC supremacy just yet.
@Mistaken4193 was a much more reasonable fan. But, if you want to address the injury issues, let's do it:
You will first need to forfeit your your 2009 NC against Texas who lost their starting QB in the first quarter. If that's all you have to do - claim that but for an injury or two you would have won, then UT was the NC in 2009. Now, I don't really agree with that, but that's the logical conclusion of your injury excuse. We also need to reevaluate last year's NC ... Fields got injured with broken ribs. I am guessing that cost them 3 or 4 touchdowns, and they probably would have beaten you had he been at full strength. You want to keep going back and looking at injuries in all the other NC games you guys have won? Again, I don't believe any of this ... it's absurd. And that's the point.
You seem to imply that only injuries that happen in the game matter. What's up with that? We lost our starting RG in the first set of downs in the Clemson game. Our OL would have been substantially better with him in the NC game. We lost our sack leader, Adam Anderson, halfway through the season. We lost our All American Star, Tykee Smith, to injury during the season. And contrary to what you typed our WR1, Pickens, was still not anywhere near 100% and WR2, Dom Blaylock, was out all season. Continuing with WRs, Arian Smith broke his leg - he's the closest thing we have to some of your traditional burner WRs. So we were down 3 of our top WRs in the game, too. So, let's see, we were down 3 of our top WRs, one our best OL, and 3 of our best defenders. That makes it even ... natty back on.
To finish off this absurd argument, you guys have had the no. 1 recruiting classes for as long as any of us remember. So, your backups who are going to be some of the best players in the country, should have been ready to step in and play. The two final TDs we scored were scored by freshman who were prepared for the magnitude of the event and made the plays. For you to think that injury and loss of players was somehow only something that Bama experienced is laughable. Did it affect the game? We don't know for a fact if it did or didn't. We can made an assumption that it did. But we can also assume that our injuries, that were equal to or greater to yours also lessened our team and made a difference. Stop with the excuses, congratulate the team that beat you and move on. You look like a fucking loser if you don't.
As for the RB issue, I actually said we were even, although if pressed I thought we had the edge. My reason is that our older guys have more experience and less injuries. All your older backs are coming back from serious injuries - sorry, but Sanders isn't the back he was coming out of high school. We know what that is like, Zeus never got back to where he could have been. We have Milton coming off injury, but McIntosh and Edwards injury free. And, I'll put Robinson up against any of your incoming backs ... he's a beast. As for all your guys being higher rated RBs, they all match up within a few backs of each other. You certainly have way more backs, but that's not a good thing ... 5 backs is a lot ... you guys have 7. That won't last. Also, if Saban is so convinced about how good your RBs are, why bring in Gibbs? Give that a thought. I'll give you a slight edge now that I think about it, but only because of Gibbs. He is a proven RB ... it will be interesting to see how he does in your packed room. It will also be interesting to see how many of your RBs are there after spring.
Where did I say that BV was going to beat out SBIV? I don't think it will happen, but it will be a competition. You act like you know my program better than I do. You don't. Bennett beat our JTD once JTD was healthy because (1) our O scheme changed to want/need the QB to be able to run, and (2) per some people I trust who are close to the program, JTD simply didn't look as good once he got back.
I actually think the Ds will be similar. You aren't going to believe this, but we return more players than you do who played 1/3 or more of the snaps on D. So, no, I won't be booking anything. We will take a small step back from what we were this year, but if you don't think we aren't going to be stout on D, I'll enjoy the look on your face when you see the results on the field.
No where in any of this are we looking at any transfer coming in for us. And more for you. For example we still might lose TE Washington, and you may be the landing spot. That would hurt. But Smart will be recruiting the portal as soon as we are able - counts simply don't allow it right now.
No one, certainly not me, said anything about you passing the torch. Goodness some of you Gumps are sensitive. A few of us were having a civil discussion about next year and you had to get your panties in a wad. Everyone here knows you are still the best program in the land. I just think we'll be a lot better than you think we will be.
And you can be sure that I am enjoying my win. All your excuses can't and won't in any way lessen my joy! I still have thousands to spend on all the merch I am buying.
