Aftermath of Hall of Fame Wednesday

i don’t buy that this is why they are “out”. Guys like Steve Carlton never spoke to the press yet he got in. Also, these are the same writers who voted for bonds for multiple MVPs. They certainly didn’t make it personal there.

I just think that there exists these character type criteria that some writers give more emphasis than other writers do. That may change over time (most things do) but right now they’ve been pretty consistent in keeping PED users where there’s no doubt that they used out. IMO that’s why they are out… not their personalities.

It’s funny watching all the backlash this morning. I bet there would be similar backlash the other way if Bonds and Clemens got in… just from a different group of people.
I don’t know….I think it’s all tied in. Carlton is a good example of someone not on Christmas card lists with the press, but still got in. I think it’s fair to say the media was more professional back then. I’ll start there. Plus, not that votes were public at all back then, but they really didn’t have anything else to prop against his unreal stats.

Bonds/Clemens….they do think they have something to prop up against their insane stats and support the “guy was a douche” belief.

I really don’t think character should ever be allowed to come into play. Obviously if there was a baseball example of Aaron Hernandez that has to count. Short of that…it should be the stats.

That still causes an issue for PED guys. But, that will work out over time.

So....if you were being beamed aboard the Starship Enterprise in the middle of taking a shit, does the turd come with or does it stay where you were?

If it doesn't come with, does your asshole slam shut?

I cant bring myself to give a single fuck about the Baseball HOF. Well, I dont give a fuck about baseball at all. How do people care so much about something so fucking stupid?

i won’t deny that there is an element of it being a popularity contest and that some writers hold ridiculous grudges (ie I heard Rob Parker going off that bonds didn’t get in but he admitted he didn’t vote for oritz. Haha. That dude hates Boston sports). I just think after ten attempts the writers spoke pretty soundly that this is an issue for a significant portion of them. Significant enough to deny entry and again they’ve been pretty consistent (McGuire, Sosa, etc) were also denied entry.

The fact is if it’s strictly stats then you don’t need voters. You just set criteria and if you hit those numbers (in whatever combinations you set) you’re in. If you don’t… you’re out. Personally, I think baseball (and other sports) run into problems if character issues aren’t considered. For example, take Omar vizquel. He’s been pretty close but now he has these sexual harassment charges pending. If he gets in a bad look for the sport. Similarly, if a sexual deviant has great numbers gets in that’s also a bad look. Those are easy examples of where to draw the line. This PED issue is a harder one. MOST say it’s ok (60% said bonds and Clemens should get in). That’s more than half… but not enough to get in.

Sports writers should be barred from HOF voting. Let players do the voting.

The PED argument goes away with Ortiz. If your stance is no known PED users, fine. But Ortiz is a known PED user with a failed test. How can you logically say yes to Ortiz and no to Bonds when both have been caught using, but Bonds was the far superior player? That’s what bothers people. How do you first ballot a guy who used and only played half the game, but leave off guys like Bonds, Clemens, Schilling and Andruw Jones? It makes no sense.

"SAG-AFTRA and the producers of the Super Bowl Halftime Show have met and had an open and frank discussion, and have agreed that no professional dancers will be asked to work for free as part of the halftime show. SAG-AFTRA will be advising our professional dancer members that they should not be rehearsing or working on the Super Bowl Halftime Show without compensation.
"It is important to note that Roc Nation had always contracted for 115 paid SAG-AFTRA professional dancers as part of the stage show. We are grateful to Roc Nation, their producer and in particular our member Jay-Z, for their collaboration and commitment to professional artists.
