Caleb Williams

stoops was struggling on defense before LR got there too, LR really did save him with his offense. BTW for you to have a chance vs Bama, you gotta score 40 plus
Most of this nonsense on this thread is all of a sudden OU is destined to score 7 points per game.OU’s offense will be fine and with more emphasis on D they should be a better TEAM. That’s all I can ask for.

lol no one said they will only score 7.. but if you really think (not you specifically) Lebby>Riley on the offense side of the ball... your in for some growing pains.

Now is BV>Grinch? Uh duh.. I mean BV already trying to bring in DL over 300lbs unlike Grinch. But I have no idea why he brought Valai in.. he sucks as a DB coach

Fordman did but he’s a cowboy fan so he ate paint chips as a kid. You kinda hit nail on the head from what I’m thinking. OU probably isn’t going to average 45 points per game without Riley but they shouldn’t be giving up 45 under Venables either. I like Riley but he gave no shits about Defense. I’m ok with BV/Lebby over Riley/Grinch

OU's issue is the recruiting part. Lincoln Riley was the one bringing in those recruits, as you can see from the mass exodus when he left. He was getting many of them from California, which will likely be done with now, as it looks like all the kids in Cali want to go to USC.

So yes, focusing on the defense will be great, but you have to pull the elite recruits from somewhere. If the Cali pipeline is closed with Riley at USC and the Texas schools now basically putting players on the payroll with NIL deals. It will get tougher and tougher for OU to pull those elite 5 star recruits Riley was pulling in.

If the goal is to compete in the Big 12 -- then yes, I agree, the team will be fine. If it is to compete for national titles -- then I think OU fans aren't going to be happy with the new hires. I don't see any way OU can recruit with the top teams if you have Riley locking down California. With Texas and Texas AM now shelling out serious NIL money -- OU is going to find it much tougher out there recruiting in the upcoming years.

I said 10, sir.

Their only hope is the FL kid that wants out of FL but still in the SEC. But then they have to deal with a lot of other schools, and Norman isn't exactly a place people look forward to visiting.

Wow. Slow down. OU has taken a step back. No doubt about it and we've got a lot of work to do. But it's not as if we're suddenly dropping down to Nebraska's level where we have to sweat out even being competitive. Losing Muleshoe will hurt, probably, in the short term because we did lose a bunch of good recruits. But it's not forever. OU's just got to get back to taking care of business and the recruiting will take care of itself. I'll bet you OU has a better record in 2022 than USC will. But I'll expect USC to improve a lot by 2023. That doesn't mean OU won't be fine long term. Everyone is enjoying the OU drama but it's all on Venables and the new staff to put things back together. I expect within 3 years to have a better team on the field for SEC play than we would have had without all the changes. And that's what most OU fans are really interested in anyway.
OU will be fine. Venables will bring D to OU, and he can find OCs that can get the O working as well as Riley, or close enough. Folks, Riley never won a CFP game because he had no D.

lol Clemson is in the middle of SEC country and Venables and Dabo had no problem getting talent.

But Clemson's boosters have a church thing that helped get kids there. ou really needs something, which i know is coming, that twitter guy dickson or whatever said they have something in the works that will be better than UT or something

I don't know that California will be closed off for OU, but it will be harder because when USC is good, that's where all of the local kids want to go.

But, USC can't sign everybody, so OU would have to compete with the other pac teams for the kids USC doesn't sign. OU would be able to sell them on cfp appearances and also on playing in the SEC.

Oregon was able to quietly build up their program while Carroll had USC rolling by signing a lot of the kids USC didn't. Riley established a footprint in California for OU. It'll be interesting to see if Venables can use it.

Remember the old question "What two things does every town in Texas with a population of at least 5,000 people have"?

Answer: A 7-11 and an OU recruiter.

Texas talent and home grown OU talent have always carried Oklahoma.....plus a few other players around the country to fill out the rest of the team. Moving to the SEC will help OU's recruiting. If USC gets back to where it was, Riley staying at OU would have been about the same as his leaving when it comes to recruiting. Either way OU needs to be able to recruit nationally. The competition will be stiffer in the SEC but at least we will have a lot better story to tell to recruits.

They are right on the boarder of Georgia. The distance from Clemson to UGA is like 50 miles. University of Georgia can only sign so many guys in state. They are the only big D-1 football program.

OU if they are going to recruit Texas has to beat out multiple big schools and with NIL, it will likely close the door on many of those guys, as the big Texas schools are essentially putting guys on the payroll now.

With Riley in Cali -- OU isn't beating him out for Cali guys. They couldn't even keep the guys he recruited and were already at OU.

Again, I'm not saying OU is going to drop out of the spotlight. They will continue to be a top 25 team every year, but they have little to no chance to recruit like the top programs can now, with their two biggest pipelines being dried out.

OU will always do fine in Texas. Norman is closer to the Cotton Bowl than Austin. OU's quarterback they signed from Texas is from Denton which is like a little over an hour from Norman. Not worried about Texas but would be nice to keep that Florida pipeline going.

It's going to get a lot messier now.. Arkansas is really making some inroads to the metroplex area. Aggy is def going after DFW this cycle the way they just did with the Houston area in '22 (DFW has more bluechips than the Houston area in '23)..

Stoops for all his triumphs, never had to recruit Texas with aggy carrying bags openly as they do now, or an upstart Arkansas program that took Sanders away from being a sooner. Texas will be fine, because it's Texas and they typically have higher rated classes after NSD (development is a whole other topic).

The longer it takes for UT/ou to get to the SEC, only hurts ou .

i'm glad i have so many experts here telling me how its all gonna go down
