For years Nebraska has had equal or better recruiting than every other team in the Big 10 West, yet can't finish higher than 5th in the division.

And I said Nebraska screwed themselves long before Frost was named coach. You left a conference where you were the big fish, where you could pull recruits from the Big 12 footprint, as you were playing your games there. You had national powers as rivals.

Nebraska is now just another team in the weak conference of the B1G. You have no national rivals and now you play your games in the Midwest -- if a recruit wants to play in the Midwest -- there are 6 or 7 schools who are better options, with better academics, bigger rivals and national brands -- Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Norte Dame, etc.

those schools have all won a more recent national championship and even played for one than Nebraska has. That's the reason why those schools are always just a coach away. tosu has had really good luck in getting good coaches since I can remember. Guess that's how they are able to recruit really well in other areas of the country at an elite level.

There is an ASTRONOMICAL difference between competing with the B1G West and competing with the nationally elite programs.

Do I think Nebraska can become a program that can compete year in and year out with Iowa and Wisconsin -- absolutely. Do they have a shot at becoming a national power and competing with Bama, Georgia, LSU, Clemson, Ohio State, now USC (if Riley is able to recruit like he has started at USC) -- no chance at all.

Depends on location. Didn’t work for Michigan State. Nebraska is still a big enough brand to recruit nationally if they can start winning their division though.

The closest is Clemson, but they benefit for being right on the Georgia border.

I will give you a hint -- there isn't one. Brian Kelly left ND because LSU has an enormous advantage with elite recruits in Louisiana. Lincoln Riley left OU for USC because USC has an enormous advantage over OU with nationally elite recruits in California.
