Jim Harbaugh gone to NFL

One win in eight years and you think UofM owns the rivalry. Well there's no doubt you're delusional.

And I gotta say I'm glad JH didn't get the Vikings. Ohio State's gonna get some payback on 11/26. But I wouldn't rule out JH trying to cancel the game like he did in 2020.

No self respecting man would be a fan of a B1G team.
I am a proud B1G Fan (except ohio state) and an even bigger Michigan Fan ... as a Lion's fan and Detroit is the city I love, I know how to spell R-E-S-P-E-C-T (Aretha Franklin fan) ... I just don't know what R-E-S-P-E-C-T means.

Harbaugh coming back means we will get to watch him pound Day into submission on an annual basis until Ohio State fires Day

Just having the usual fun back & forth with UofM super-homer & JH nut-swinger extraordinaire mNb09. He's an entertaining character. He went from saying Ohio State/UofM isn't a rivalry just two seasons ago to saying UofM now owns Ohio State because of one W in the last 8 years. Nobody homers like him.

Ohio State would be better off firing Day this weekend.

Why didn't you tell me before ... how many Saturday Nights I ate Bon Bon's and watched Romantic Comedies alone, not knowing I had options :facepalm5:
lolz!

Ah, Voltaire, I don't like it when you get caught up as collateral damage.

All pretty good open and honest answers here:

“In a nutshell, I love Michigan,” he explained in a phone call to me Thursday evening. “I love every player. I love every family.”

Then why, he was asked, had he flown to Minneapolis to interview for the head coaching job with the Vikings?
“There was a tugging at me that I was once that close to a Super Bowl and I didn’t get it. Some NFL jobs came open. I was contacted by the (Minnesota) Vikings.

“For better or for worse, it was something I wanted to explore. I went in thinking, ‘I’m gonna have 100 percent conviction on this, and if they (Minnesota) have 100 percent conviction on this, then it’s something I’m gonna do.”

But like many a job interview, somewhere in the process, he got a sinking feeling. It was all good. “A first-class operation,” he said. “First-class people.” But there wasn’t an equal match of enthusiasm. And for a man whose catch phrase is “an enthusiasm unknown to mankind” — well, that stuff matters.

Who knows who actually didn't like who. It's possible they didn't match his demands (at the 49ers he wanted control of the whole thing). Possible they didn't like his insanity (because he is an insane person like many football coaches are). But either way, I am fine with the answer. I think it's possible that he loves Michigan, wants to coach her but also wanted to fulfill something in his life that he had dreams of doing (winning the Superbowl).

“I called Warde (Manuel, the Michigan athletic director) and I asked him if he wanted me to be the head coach. And he said, ‘Yes, 100 percent.’ And I said, OK then. That’s what I want to do.'

“And I told him, ‘Warde, this will not be a reoccurring theme every year. This was a one time thing.”

“but this was the time (to try and return.) And this is the last time. Now let’s go chase college football’s greatest prize.”

I wouldn't consider a coaching job with the Vikings as anything special.
Listening to both sides, my opinion of it is that Harbaugh wanted something very specific out of ownership -- be that money, control, no oversight ect., the Vikings ownership wasn't sold on Harbaugh and both came away thinking it wouldn't be a good fit.

How little self-respect does a program like Michigan have to let their coach treat them this way?

Harbaugh is a control freak.

Treat them how? This might be different if it was a head coach with no ties to the program. But It's Harbaugh. I never took his interest in the NFL as a shot at Michigan. Just like I don't take players who decide to leave early for the NFL as a shot at Michigan. I think his answers support this.

Near the end I was getting really annoyed at how it was dragging along. But I actually got some context on that which changed my mind. The NFL extended their season a week this year. So this would have taken place a lot earlier in previous seasons and why it overlapped signing day this year.

If they offered him the job, he was out your door. He is only at Michigan because he didn't have another option but to quit.
