Why is weed becoming legal?

I don't know how I missed this thread. :pout:

But...can't wait for pot dispensaries throughout NY state. I went to an indian reservation over the weekend and what they got going on is pretty cool.

I should be able to buy cocaine at the store I get my biscuit and energy drink every morning

Becoming?
It is still illegal federally and as a matter of fact, one county sheriff in California is using civil asset forfeiture to seize armored cars and the cash therein over legalized state sales. This is from a practicing Michigan attorney dated 06FEB22:

Interesting. In MI dispensaries are on every corner. There is one 4 miles from my house right by the mall.

Federal banking regulations ensure that dispensaries are mostly a cash only business. It wasn't a couple of years ago that national banks would not have a dispensary account nor would they allow their debit/credit cards to be used in one. In TN, the last and biggest hurdle to legalizing cannabis is the threat of federal authorities attacking the banks for having accounts from this industry. Polling consistently shows that over 70% favor MMJ and over 50% for recreational. Fortunately for me, I live in walking distance from the VA state line and can go buy a half ounce from people there without fear. Dispensaries in VA are not scheduled to open until 2024 but there is a strong movement to push that up to next spring.

Around here they finally put ATM machines in the stores and started taking debit too. They’ve been around here for years now. Now, I’ve had my card - but I know of a few places now where you don’t need one. Not sure if there is any difference in quality. The medical stuff I get is primo. So I haven’t checked them out yet.

It makes no damn sense to me why the Feds haven’t just but the bullet on this yet. Well, said better, I know why, but the logic makes no damn sense.

While it’s not the biggest hassle to run and get the Mrs cash for her orders it’s also rather illogical and pointless. If this is the last gasp proponents against legalized weed have to latch onto I laugh…and drive to get cash whenever it’s needed.

I’ve seen ATM machines in places here. Because….obviously. Haven’t seen debits get cleared yet. There was some type of cash app they were pushing one time, but there were prohibitive surcharges on it….or something like that.

Let's just say that I get medical grade from a friend I trust and get to see the original packaging, so I know that it is not laced. the really good thing about living in a town that has the state line as main street with VA on one side and TN on the other. The towns work well together and because of the amount of VA residents that are daily across state lines, my town has a policy of confiscating less than 1/2 ounce without charges being filed(unless there is more going on like pills/crack/meth). IF you do get charged, it is a $25 fine and the police are not actively seeking to enforce it.

I don’t know why, but for the first year or so they couldn’t have ATM machines here. Was cash only like you or someone else said. Now it’s just like any other store I go into. No big deal.

I agree with you. At one point it was a political issue that divided the country so it was a very useful issue come elections. Now that it is not, nobody in federal office cares at all.

If there were still such things as bipartisanship correcting this on a federal level would be an easy slam dunk.
