My wife is a licensed cosmetologist, so by association I've learned a couple things about hair care. One thing I've learned is that a lot of the popular hair care products available at big box retailers are loaded with waxy chemicals that severely damage the health of your hair. However, there are plenty of shampoo and conditioner options available that do not contain those waxy chemicals. The best hair care products are not found at big box retailers, they're found at beauty supply stores (many cannot be patronized by the general public, only licensed cosmetologists) or salons (who get their supplies from those beauty supply stores and resell them). There are also vegan hair care products available through those same resources.

With this particular vegan chick, the shit she used on her hair previously was definitely that waxy garbage from Wal-Mart. By ceasing to use those garbage products, her hair got foundationally healthier. HOWEVER, I guaran-god-dam-tee that her hair is a rancid oily mess if she never washes it properly and I feel bad for the next hair stylist that has to touch it. That chick has no idea how to properly care for her hair and needs to consult a professional.
